VIENNA, Austria What ails Viktor Yushchenko?
As Ukraine's popular pro-Western opposition leader claimed victory Tuesday in hotly contested presidential elections, the mystery surrounding an appearance-altering illness that twice prompted him to check into a Vienna hospital persisted.
Yushchenko accused the Ukrainian authorities of poisoning him. His detractors suggested he'd eaten some bad sushi. Adding to the intrigue, the Austrian doctors who treated him have asked foreign experts to help determine if his symptoms may have been caused by toxins found in biological weapons.
Medical experts said they may never know for sure what befell Yushchenko. But the illness, whatever it was, has dramatically changed his appearance since he first sought treatment at Vienna's private Rudolfinerhaus clinic on Sept. 10.
Known for his ruggedly handsome, almost movie-star looks, Yushchenko's complexion is now pockmarked and pasty. His face is haggard, swollen and partially paralyzed. One eye often tears up.
By the time Yushchenko checked out of the clinic last month after returning for follow-up treatment, physicians said they could neither prove nor rule out that he had been poisoned.

London toxicologist says dioxin poisoning.

Yushchenko first sought treatment at Vienna's private Rudolfinerhaus clinic on September 10.
Clinic director Michael Zimpfer and the clinic's chief physician, Dr. Lothar Wicke requested police protection after receiving threats for refusing to state that Yushchenko was poisoned.
Wow! The difference in those pics is disturbing.
"Clinic director Michael Zimpfer and the clinic's chief physician, Dr. Lothar Wicke requested police protection after receiving threats for refusing to state that Yushchenko was poisoned."
source it.
Particularly that the threats came because of a refusal to state that Yushchenko was poisoned.
*ponders the devil's own truth*
So what do you think it is?
Any chance he's been around chem or biological type weapons?
Uh... [sigh] stoopidreporters. So was it a toxin? or a biological agent? The dioxin theory seems a little unlikely. Not a good pick for a poison.
From these links you just need to add 1 and 1.
Yushchenko's ukrainian doctors stated that he had been poisoned.
To make this credible, he went to Austria, to seek western certification. There are countless clinics in Europe that would give him what he wanted.
He should have checked better what clinic he went first to get the desired results. From : http://www.1010city.com/arti_view.php?province=8&city=2458&article=4196

A mark.
Bump
it does not logically follow that since the clinic in Austria wouldn't say that he was poisoned means that the threats were from Yuschencko. Nor does the clinic seeking outside assistence in determining if a biological weapons agent might be involved lead to any conclusion of same.
How about this,
His opponent poisoned him but failed to kill him
His Ukrainian doctors said it was poison
He went to an Austrian clinic to get independant confirmation
the Austrian clinic couldn't confirm or deny ( which is what they have publicly stated ) that it was poison.
the Austrian clinic seeks western biological agent experts to help with the diagnosis
The Austrian doctor receives threats to stop that line of investigation.
simply put, if you're willing to risk poisoning someone than you're more than willing to risk threatening someone.
You're conclusion is not supported by any reasonable inferrence from the evidence and is actually one of the least likely scenarios that explains things.
Not logic. Why should Austrian doctor receives threats to stop that line of investigation, if as I mentioned there would be no problem to find hundreds of other clinics to certify what Yuschencko wanted ?
Why would the Austrian doctors call for expert help if they did not believe it was worthwhile doing?
Again, you're point of view does not hold up. If the Austrian doctors where going to cave why would they bother looking for an expert - just cave already and be done with it.
Your reasoning doesn't hold up.
PING!! This is frightening!
It's just a rash.
