Elk Grove up in arms over rifle

For gun collectors, the firearm is downright pretty. The gunstock of the Ruger 10/22 is engraved with a stagecoach led by four horses.

What's not so pretty, as far as Elk Grove city officials are concerned, is the name of the limited-edition weapon.

Sold by a Fort Collins, Colo., company, the rifle has been dubbed the "City of Elk Grove Special Edition" firearm. And that has proved unpopular within the city of the same name.

"I'm livid," Elk Grove Mayor Sophia Scherman said Wednesday. "When I first heard about it, I just knew that it would be interpreted as meaning that the city of Elk Grove had gone into the firearms business.

"That's why I want to say here and now this is a total misappropriation of the name of our city."
