TROOP PRAYER THREAD 11: The Holiday Vigil

Posted on 11/27/2004 2:21:03 PM PST by TEXOKIE

Here's wishing all Prayer Warriors and our beloved troops and all standing with them a belated yet very sincere Happy Thanksgiving!

I know I'm echoing many when I say we have so very much to be thankful for. High on my list are our magnificent countrymen who stood in lines throughout the nation and voted for the more difficult and rewarding path of Liberation and Morality. High on my list are the precious young men and women who have "placed themselves between their loved homes and the war's desolation" by serving in our armed forces and in our intelligence services and in the contract personnel capacities. High on my list are our allies from many nations who stand with us. High on my list are the Swift Boat Vets and all our veterans who have given their all for this nation in times past. Among them are so many of our own FReeper vets. You know who you are. Thanks. Highest on my list is the Heavenly Father we all share, for He heard our prayers and yearning thoughts in recent days, and He let His finger write in a way that continues our solid opportunities to work with Him to bring about more liberation, security, and freedom in this nation and world.

There are many challenges ahead. The amazing thing about success, is that it surely brings more to us to overcome. We have won a great Victory, but in order to seal that Victory, we must remain vigilant. The work has only begun. It is heartening, however, to know that there are so very many in this nation of like mind, and that we are no longer fully held sway by the Worm-Tongue lispings of the Main Stream Media.

The focus of this thread is all about supporting our troops and those who stand with them at home and abroad spiritually. We have stood together since the inception of the Iraqi invasion. We come together to place before our community the names of those serving, for whom we want prayers. We scan news articles and like to share them as our Prayer Warrior Field trips. Sometimes they are very serious, and sometimes they are funny, but by God's grace, they are always uplifting or a trumpet call for us to roll up our sleeves to work in our own prayer closets.

This particular thread starts during the Holiest of the seasons on the Judeo/Christian calendar. I invite and encourage all to take pauses during the hustle and bustle of shopping and parties and the great busy-ness of the season. Let those pauses, whether you are stuck in traffic, or waiting in line to pay for some holiday gifts, be dedicated to all our troops who are making the joyful madness of the season possible. While many of the prayers seen on this thread are of a decidedly Christian nature, we do state that we have great respect and reverance for our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith and are welcome to post their devotions for our troops here if they so desire.

Many many deep felt thanks to all our prayer warriors everywhere, and may your vigil for our troops during this holiday season and on into the New Year of 2005 be very blessed.

As always, special thanks go to amom, who is our prayer list Keeper. The updated list can be found below. If you have corrections or wish to be placed on or off our ping list contact either TEXOKIE or amom. The ping list tends to be relatively low volume because of our understanding that the real heavy lifting is done in our own individual prayer closets and other worship activities. We use this thread as a place to gather and to communicate and support one another as we pursue our like-minded goals to hold vigil for our troops and those who stand with them, including their families.

We are grateful to God that for those who have been injured or taken back Home, He has dispatched angels to their care.

Dear Lord,
Lest I continue
My complacent way
Help me remember
Somewhere out there
A man died for me today
--As long as there be war
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?"

Taken from the book, "A Man Called Intrepid" by William Stevenson about William Stephenson, the head of British intelligence services prior to and during WWII. He wrote this at the very beginnings of the Battle of Britain and shared it with Eleanor Roosevelt.

STAR SPANGELED BANNER

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

MERCIFUL HEAVENLY FATHER,

We have just had our national day of Thanksgiving. We dedicate our prayers and the blessings of the day to you and to our vigil for the troops according to thy Will. Multiply all our devotions in such a way as to make the sum of our collective efforts greater than the sum of our individual efforts.

Father, we thank you for the recent election results. We thank you for the fact that elections have taken place in Afghanistan and shall shortly be taking place in Iraq. We are grateful for our beloved troops and those who stand with them at home and abroad. We are grateful for all our veterans who have served in the past. We give special rememberance and reverance as we place before you the ones whom you have called to your Heavenly Home early. Father, they have given all. They have laid down their lives for their brothers and we are told there is no greater gift. We are incapable of repaying the debt we have to them, but that makes the gratitude we feel in our hearts no less. Please surround each of these with special messages of our love and appreciation where ever they are in your Universe. Comfort and heal the loved ones they have left behind. We praise you for reading our hearts and granting so many blessings.

Father, we understand that there are so many challenges which are before us. We do not always know or understand what your divine Plan and Will might be, but we do pray that you will show us and guide us and our leaders. We ask that you will grant our re-elected President, George W Bush an extraordinary ability to hear your Word in his heart. Instruct him, and help him to hear and see clearly your Vision for this nation and what you would have him do in the time he has to lead us as President. Let this prayer also be extended to any and all of the people who hold public office. If they bow their heads in prayer, whether they are elected or appointed, and ask in even the briefest prayer or wish for guidance, grant them that extraordinary contact with your garment. Grant them selflessness, strength, courage, illumination, and wisdom. Protect all who decide to take difficult steps to fulfill the mandate and office you give them.

Father, in this hour, we pray for our beloved troops who are stoking the fires of the forge of Liberty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Protect and guide each one individually. We place before you our entire list above which we have been compiling and we petition you to enfold each and every person on that list. If there are other lists compiled elsewhere by prayer groups throughout the nation, we ask that they also be brought before you and ratified by our prayers as well.

Grant all who are in harm's way, all our troops, allies, support personnel, intelligence operatives, and Iraqis learning to protect their own country, special protection and mercy. We ask that you will weave over each of them a special garment composed of our prayers and your love. Place over that enfolding garment a golden chain mail armor of the most invulnerable substance of burnished Power. Let this indeed be the whole armor of God which we are all admonished in your Word to put on daily. Assign legions of angels to perform and assist in miracles of protection, wisdom, comfort, courage, healing, discipline, obedience, service, and mercy.

Grant those who are waiting and holding vigil a special ability to contact your Peace and Hope at all times of worry or stress. Grant them above all greater Faith and a real sure knowledge that you do indeed care about their loved ones and that you are mindful of their missions to serve and shall hold them to your heart in ALL circumstances. Grant all of our troops and those serving away from home sure knowledge and Peace that you have their families in your care as well.

We praise you and thank you for all the miracles and blessings which you have already granted. We praise and thank you for the amazing Victories which have recently been won. Father, we ask that those Victories be sealed and that those who would strip from a free people the gains which have been forged are now stripped of all ability to undo that which you have wrought and which has been ratified by your children with their free will votes and the blood of their soldiers.

Father, in the coming days of the Holy Season, we ask that you will help our people to hallow that holiness even in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Guide each of us daily as we seek to conduct ourselves as your hands and feet. Guide us and give us our daily marching orders. Help us to truly become greater instruments of thy true and abiding Peace.

In the anticipation of the great Communion with thy Spirit during this Season,

Amen

PRAYER WARRIOR FIELD TRIPS!!!

1)ican'tbelieveit brought us this message at the end of Thread 10:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1287289/posts

"Prayers for those deploying, and in particular, AQGeiger, as she is going to need strength, not only for her husband, but for her schoolwork."

This has particular meaning for me, Texokie, in that my niece's husband will be among those leaving very shortly for Iraq with the 82nd.

2)Race Bannon has posted a very important article by Henry Lamb about the forces of the anti-war movement. I urge everyone to please go to this link and read the article. The anti-war folks are planning to pull some shenanigans during the January Inauguration and during the anniversary of the Iraq invasion in March. Please consider sending this article to your email lists and above all please put the information contained in the article on your personal prayer sheets!

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1289252/posts

Beloved Heavenly Father,

Some among us have received news that our loved ones in the 82nd Airborne are scheduled to shortly go to Iraq to protect the preparations for the upcoming elections. Father, we place these loved ones in your tender and capable care. Grant us who hold vigil the ability to be patient and strong. Help us to set aside any and all worry or stress so that we may be stable vessels for your use during our vigils. Help us to develop the art of praying constantly. Help us to become one-pointed in our service. Help us to move in our daily lives with a sense of Joy, for we claim this world in your Name! THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S AND THE FULLNESS THEREOF!! Surround our loved ones with the Whole Armor of God, and place it upon our own bodies so that we may be among the legions who are working to clear the way for our troops at a non-physical level for the Victory.

We see, oh Father, the forces of darkness who use people in their ignorance or misplaced goodness to adopt the stance of the ones who cry "Peace! Peace! and there is no Peace." Father, we ask that in accordance thy Will, you will send your own Messiah into that entire situation to render Judgement. Strip from those who are the hate-mongers and the ones who wish to bring down the Light of America their ability to have a lasting effect on the outcome of the challenges facing our nation. Strip from them their ability to persuade, whether it be through their street theater, or editorial uses in our main stream media. We are grateful that they have the right to seek to win the hearts and minds of our people, but we are equally grateful that you seem to be granting us the greater ability to discriminate between the Truth and the Lie. Expose that Truth!! Expose that Lie! Let all see what IS the Truth in this entire situation concerning the steps needed in order to win the war against western civilization known as the War on Terror.

We thank you and praise you, our Father. Let all be done only according to thy own Will, Timing, and Plan.

amen

PRAYER WARRIOR FIELD TRIP!!

One of our own FReepers, blue scourge, is leaving for basic training. Hike on over here to give encouragement!

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1285521/posts

Merciful Father,

We give thanks this day for the young people you have placed here in our nation, and who are responding to your Call to defend the Holy Cause of Freedom!

Place on the one known to us as Blue Scourge, your whole armor of burnished gold chain mail. Wrap him with one of our prayer blankets made from our prayers and your love. Guide him through training and assist him at all times during his period of service.

Father bless him and all his family and loved ones. We here at the cyber community of Free Republic hold him especially dear, for we have come to know him. We are so blessed to have this fine young man among us as well as all our FReepers and those known to FReepers who have chosen to serve in the armed forces or in other capacities which put them in harm's way.

Thank you again, Father, for guiding and guarding this young man and all his brothers and sisters under arms and their supporters.

Amen

Marine's Prayer

Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family.

Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my Country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.

If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again.

Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.

I pray that we will be thankful every day and not just on a holiday. God, thank you for our beloved America, for the brave soldiers who fight and give their lives so we might be free, for our President, who we pray will be strong and stay safe from harm. I pray that all Americans will come together to keep us free from forces that wish to harm us. In Christ's name--Amen

THE VIETNAM WAR VET

By Rita J. Lammers

Men and women died in honor
In a land so far away
How do we explain the conflict
To the children of today.

When they look at us with wonder
"Tell us did we win the war
All these lives are gone forever
What was all the fighting for."

Drop down on a knee and tell them
All the Vets of Vietnam
Fought this fight for others freedom
No regard for their own harm.

All the names upon this wall
These people did not die in vain
For freedom's price throughout the
world Is living on in each one's name.

Valiantly they fought the fight
In that place across the sea
Sacrificed their lives so bravely
Trying to make others free.

They did not question should I go
They served with willingness and grace
To try and bring a taste of freedom
To another land and place.

We know from all their sacrifice
It takes a special kind of heart
To fight and help their fellow man
To care that much and do their part.

And if you do not understand
The price we pay for freedom yet
You'll find the answer living still
Within a Vietnam War Vet.

God Bless Our Great Military
