Sometimes it feels like the 'love of country' that almost all of us feel despite our differences should be a touchstone we hang on to when commenting on other perspectives. Yes I was watching a documentary on the History Channel on Saturday night about Hitler's various serious health problems. What was so remarkable was the "love of country" regardless of what propoganda was being spewed from the top under whatever drugs.
There is but one perspective and that is the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Why would we want to re-translate those documents to mean something they were never intended to mean? Neither were meant to quell self determination, though Abraham Lincoln interpreted it to be so, or to supress freedom FROM religion, though ruling after ruling in recent history has determined that this country should be free of Christianity even though we now have a Muslim commemorative stamp, now showing at your local post office. When is the last time we had a stamp commemorating the birth of Christ?
