Rest in peace Marine Lance Corporal Gavriel. You answered the call when it wasn't required. Your service and sacrifice is not only honorable, it is heroic and appreciated. God Bless you and your family.

From the bluest of the blue states, Dimitrios (the way his name has been printed locally) Gavriel hails from Haverhill, Massachusetts, the town next over from mine. Right near the New Hampshire border on the Merrimack River.

He & his family have indeed been Blessed. He has reported to Chesty, for his post in Heaven! GOD has Blessed our troops!
Where do we find men like these, where indeed do we find men like these!

"Where do we find men like these, where indeed do we find men like these!"
My first instinct was to snap at you that they are everywhere, we have millions of them. Then I decided it was a rhetorical question, but my answer still stands. God has blessed this nation with millions of men and women just like this one. As long as that is so, our nation will survive.
RIP, brother.

He went to Timberline High School in NH.
Was State champion as a Heavyweight.
Saw him wrestle in 96? at the New England wrestling Championships.
Man of convictions and courage. My heart goes out to his family.

Whenever I become disgusted and pessimistic with the pierced, tattooed, foul-mouthed thugs that seem so prevalent in our society today, I find renewed hope and optimism when I read and hear of these fine young men and women of our Armed Forces. God Bless them and keep them strong.

I listened to the story of this hero on NPR's 'All Things Considered' this evening as I returned from work, (after sunset AM talk radio doesn't come in, so don't flame me for listening to 'The People's Republic' radio), and had tears rolling down my face by the time it was finished. I am in awe of such heroes as him. Good article about him in the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Gavriel will be buried the following Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery, his mother said. From your link
How in the world did he get in Arlington??
Mom must be in awful mourning, unless he got a Medal of Honor or Silver Star.

"Both Tillman and Gavriel attained coveted, symbolic positions in American life -- professional athlete, professional capitalist -- and traded them in for a common destiny as patriots."Thanks SO much for the ping. It puts so many things into proper perspective.
