Not that I don't love a good panic first thing in the morning, nor do I think that what you've posted isn't plausible...the thing is, what can you and I do about it?

Matthew 24:6-8
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.

it's a little more involved than just the flu ....
...is that the sound of horses hooves I hear?

The WHO is working on the theory that domestic ducks are the main transmitters of the virus...

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. :^)

>Is there something beyond the normal flu prevention we should do?

Yes, worry about *real* dangers, such as getting killed in your car, rather than worrying about matters of little to no substance.

Oh, and make sure your hair isn't on fire! :0

>>2 freaking ducks that are not a threat to chickens.........big deal. <<

That's what they said about the dead ducks in Guangxi Province in 2000 (the current recombined H5N1 virus which gave rise to the H5N1 pandemic in Asia was first found on a duck farm in Guanxi Province in 2000.

Will you be terribly disappointed if no pandemic occurs?

I understood that 1) H5N1 is much less infectious than the Spanish flu and 2) the cases occurred in, effectively, third world countries, or at least areas of countries where conditions were third world, where medical technology was woefully lacking or nonexistent.

Have I misunderstood?

DelMarVa has had avian flu problems in the past and will have avian flu problems in the future

Tell me something I don't know.

(and human flu in all 6 counties).

As I said, don't speak of an area you obviously know nothing about. There are far more than 6 counties on DelMarVa. There are only 3 counties in Delaware.

Nothing perturbs me more than a know-it-all who refuses to admit to not knowing it all.

Yeah, that was my first reaction!

I'd like to teach her a lesson or two. :^)

And I don't know who JenaneneG is.

The warning came from WHO, not web sites you have visited

Why don't just pick up the phone and call DPI in Georgetown, since you are so freaking concerned about avian flu on DelMarVa??????

BTW, what is your financial interest in the poultry industry?

Will you be terribly disappointed if no pandemic occurs?

probably not as disipointerd as you will be if it does ...
when we put all the peices in place for a catastrophy, it's not supprising that there are folks who point out the possibility of catastrophy ...

I'm not losing any sleep over it , but I do keep an eye on the world news for reports of outbrakes. With all the nifty new deadly viruses popping up all over the world ...
you would have to be a bit nieve to think that something couldn't pop up and really put the smack down on entire populations.

The misconceptions on avian flu are pretty widespread (on both the left and right).

Gopher made the initial find of the DU postings.
I merely followed it up and eyeballed it.

And I also checked his DU profile.. to find his homepage listed there as Recombinomics.
