Iran not afraid of US pressure, supreme leader says ["will never stop its nuclear programme"]

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday his country would press on with its nuclear programme and was not afraid of pressure from the United States.

"The people and the officials are not scared of the political threats made by the powers in the service of oppression," Khamenei was quoted as saying by state television during a meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"Iran will never stop its nuclear programme, that is our red line," he said in comments that coincided with Iran's agreement to suspend, but not halt, its controversial work on the nuclear fuel cycle.

Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters of state, said the suspension agreement with Britain, France and Germany -- designed to prevent the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from referring Iran to the UN Security Council -- "were carried out while respecting this red line".

"Iran will never stop its nuclear programme, that is our red line,"

I seem to recall a certain Head of a North African nation claiming that any ships entering the Gulf of Sidra would be crossing the 'Line of Death'. It would be wise to learn from history, Mr Ayatollah.

I was a US contractor working in Iran to support the Shah's Imperial Iranian Air Force. I was based in Esfahan (Isfahan) but travelled to Shiraz, Doshentopi and Mirabahd airbases.

How fast could arrangements for financing and supports be put in place? Time is not on the Iranians side, as the mullahs seem to be in a big hurry.

"How fast could arrangements for financing and supports be put in place?"

I don't know. I know time is running out. And it seems the two options discussed most are bombing and financial in the form of sanctions or an embargo. I don't know why we don't hear more about toppling this regime.
Nukes don't kill, people do. Get rid of this regime, and we won't have to worry about the nukes.

No matter what the nuclear sites must be removed from Iran. Having nuclear sites in any Muslim Country is dangerous and should not be tolerated. Look at Pakistan!

Iran does not need nuclear power they have an abundence of oil.

8' to 10' by 3-4" Tungsten Rods Dropped from Geosynchronous orbit--with a "Circular Error" of Less than 100' are the OBVIOUS Answer.

The 'Rods Arrive with "Meteoric Force,"--Punching holes Deep enough to Annihilate ANY "Buried Facility."

There is NO Defense.

America has Restrained Itself; PERHAPS these "Mullahs" might "Re-Assess" their agressive Posture; They are NOT going to be allowed to Threaten their Neighbors with Nuclear Weapons.

WE "Have the High Ground," & WHEN the Psychotic Mullah's elect to "Go Nuclear," we can (&, I Suspect, Will) END their twisted "foray" into "21st Century Science" in a SPECTACULAR FASHION.

The Iranian Mullah's are playing by Thirteenth Century Rules with 21st Century Weapons. That "Dissonance" WILL NOT be "Allowed" to Survive!!

With a change in gov't, there will be so many social and economic changes necessary and money will have to be spent on the people and infrastructure. (things they aren't spent on much now). The new gov't won't be spending time and money on nukes.
Iran isn't a muslim country in the sense that arabic countries are. Islam was imposed upon the Persians. Years of oppression under extremist muslim rule have taken their toll. When the mullahs are gone, there will be many changes.

I suspect the "FlashBangs" Might be heard as far away as Iraq & Israel.

The "Impacts" would be READILY SEEN via Satellite reconnisance.

The "Political repercussions" would come, "Fast & Furious," from the Psychopaths "Ruling" Iran.

The "People of Iran" would, Likely, CHEER!

The reactions you are seeing on these boards are just folks like me blowing off steam.

However, the "Arab" street or a united Islam are not neccesary to consider.

I love the Persian people, and most of them love us contrary to thier daily brainwashing.

We can't go into Iran right now but we CAN let Israel destroy thier nuclear facilities and then gather forces at home for retraining while Iraq stablilizes.

Our number one problem is not that we are "over-extended", it is that we have been too nice.

Iranian private groups are openly advertising on the streets to hire anti-American suicide bombers. The Mullahs are not stopping this. I say seal the border now, warn EVERYONE that border crossing is an act of war. If they cross the border, all crossers will be annihilated.

It's not as difficult as you think. The only thing lacking is WILL. As far as the fear of a United Islam being to much for us, LOL!

If they are as tough as they think they are, then maybe WE will stop treating them like lambs and unleash the full force of a no-holds barred military campaign againt them. There is a very REAL shadow war going on against the West. My point is that if they ever got the upper hand, we would go nuclear. If one portable terrorist nuke goes off in the US, we will go nuts. Oh, and I'm not worried we will lose. I'm worried we will wipe them off the face of the planet. They confuse America with the rest of the west. WE will NOT be conquered, EVER. They should worry about the American "Street". That's why they put out the propoganda messages to influence us. I'm influenced all right. Influenced to destroy them.

I find it amusing that you can't see the wider geo-political scene that is going on. For example, what do you think China thinks of our War On Terror?

BTW, don't you think we ARE financing regime change in Iran? Think behind the scenes. We are not going to tell the AP about it, LOL!

"don't you think we ARE financing regime change in Iran?"

To the extent that's needed to topple the regime? No.
To a Much lesser extent, yes.

No, but I would like to be added to the ping listing if there is one. I have a lot of Persian friends here and they are interested in a lot of news from Iran. They were especially estatic when the protests happened just recently.

Fair enough.

Given that the CIA's budget is classified, there is no way to tell. I have little faith in the CIA though so you may be right.

However, a lot of Persians live in the US and they must have some influence with the people in Iran. I would bet that a lot of capital goes into Iran to fund anti-theocratic movements.

It's an interesting question but you and I can't really know the answer here. I know that the UN would be on the side of the current government so international consensus would be against the normal people in Iran. Funny how things have evolved eh?

Iran is one of the 20'th centuries greatest failures IMHO. It could have played out so differently. This event perhaps foreshadowed modern Islamic terrorism. IMHO, it was the birth of such things.

Your strategy is superior and one I advocate BUT the US can not be weak on Iran's government. The Europeans have proven themselves almost useless in dealing with Iran.

So we have to go realtively slow with Iran while Europe throws hissy fits at them. Once we get Iraq controllable, we can re-focus our efforts. In my mind. it's a time game. Of course, you may have faith in the EU and the UN, I can already tell you how that will end but figure it out for yourself.

Steady goes the pace and all that crap.

Arioch7 out!
