Not all Canadians anti-Bush: Tory MP
Sun Media ^ | Kathleed Harris

An Alberta Tory MP whose son served with the U.S. Army in Iraq delivered a personal message yesterday to the U.S. president: Not all Canadians are anti-Bush.

Dennis Thompson, son of MP Myron Thompson, is a dual citizen who signed up for service south of the border in 1996 because the Canadian Forces were "downsizing." The 31-year-old army engineer served for a year in Iraq and could be dispatched to Afghanistan in the new year.

Thompson, who joined Tory Leader Stephen Harper in a 30-minute private meeting with Bush, said the crowds of protesters in Ottawa don't represent all Canadians.

"I know the president understands democracy often comes at a cost and it is paid for by the members of our military," he said.

Thompson said the president seemed to be surprised to learn there were Canadians fighting with the U.S. in Iraq and extended his gratitude for their efforts.

"I really admire the man. He knows where he's going and what he's doing," Thompson said. "I'm behind him all the way."

The younger Thompson called Bush "a good guy" and agreed it's important to offset the negative tone of protesters.

"I'm pretty sure the president knows, but it's kind of nice to hear that not everyone is against you," he said in an interview.

Myron Thompson first approached Prime Minister Paul Martin and told him he hoped to send Bush a "positive message" during his visit. The PM was warm to the idea, and also extended an invitation to last night's official dinner.

I'll tell ya' what I love . . . and respect.

That would be our Canadian FReepers!

You guys and gals have cojones the size of beachballs, metaphorically speaking of course. Some of my brethren, US of A FReepers like to toss ALL Canadians into the liberal sewer pit YET you folks come back fighting like wolverines. You post threads proving such generalities are nonsense . . . and you good-naturedly take on all-comers who doubt your sincerity to the cause. Your conservative fierceness is damned, damned inspiring.

There must be something in the FReeper water because we're a rough and tough bunch and we take no liberal prisoners . . . and I'll proudly serve on the frontlines with ANY Canadian FReeper. Hell's fire, I'll even make y'all honorary Texans . . . and there ain't no greater award than that. LOL.

Dittos.

Our Frozen FRiends have been nothing but gracious in the face of an awful lot of Canada bashing.

True, but if the Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) isn't checked soon, then more Canadians will increasingly become more anti-american (not just anti-bush).

Fortunately, since the advent of the 150 (or more) channel universe, the old line broadcasting networks are becoming increasingly irrelevant - most people just don't watch them all that much. I get most of my news on the internet - much of it here.

Also, Fox News is coming to Canada. I would love to see them cream the CBC in ratings....

It won't happen. FNC will only be available on digital.

Too bad. ( Not that I know what digital is., exactly.)

Here in New York, I'm always glued to Fox.

Thanks for the ping Judy.

... and also for the many kind, thoughtful and sympathetic comments representative of the vast majority of Freepers south of the border. The noble spirit and ideals of America are personified by its President and the 61 million(and still counting!) patriots who elected him and Dick Cheney.

Likewise, Canadians posting on FreeRepublic give voice to millions of others who have no more in common with the Liberal Party and anti-US vermin than you decent Americans do with the Clintons or Michael Moore.

Plus, millions in both nations have family branches and other strong social ties transcending the border which, as good conservatives, we should all show due respect.

The thanks is mine, Judy. I checked out your homepage. I didn't think you'd mind if I posted one sentence off it to prove that I'm right about our Canadian FReepers . . .

"I will never forget September 11th. In my heart I became "American" that day."

Yup, our Canadian FReepers "get it" and I'm proud to call you FRiends.

It sucks. To get FNC, we'll have to have a digital TV (about $2000.00 up here), rent a digital cable box from our rip-off cable monopoly, AND THEN we'll have to pay through the nose for a bunch of other channels we don't want. Welcome to Canukistan...

"Also, Fox News is coming to Canada. I would love to see them cream the CBC in ratings.... Yes!"

I have asked Rogers to switch my cable service to digital just so that I can get Fox News.
