Remember the Tylenol tampering in the mid-1980s? That caused near-mass hysteria and only a few people died. Imagine if a few hundred people were to die from tampered food across the country? Nobody would feel safe. Taste-testing would be the fastest growing occupation in America.

Why leave a guy in charge of air safety who has obstructed the arming of our commercial pilots (the one thing that would have most likely stopped the events of 09-11 at the 11th hour)

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Thompson would say this publicly.
What, so he can later say, "I told you so"? That's juvenile. Let's hope his replacement is an adult.

Think about this: thousands get drinking water from central systems. Millions of cadmium batteries are out there. It doesn't take but a gross or so to render a water supply dangerous.
We are not as safe as DHS wishes us to believe.

"For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do," he said. Thanks for the posit, Tommy. And your "leadership."
Maybe you can follow that chickensh*t statement up with, "We're sitting ducks for ANY attack. For the life of me, I cannot understand what the terrorists are waiting for??"
To: Snapple
"I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do."Tommy could have performed a real service to us if he had instead said, "I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our Liberals because it is so easy to do."

Although I feel that Thompson should have kept these thoughts to himself, possibly he wanted to stimulate a discussion on the protection of agriculture a subject that most Americans find as interesting as hemorrhoids. Possibly we're shooting the messenger unnecessarily because I have little doubt that terrorists already have our agricultural in their sights. The fact that USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service was moved under the auspices of Homeland Security tells me I am not the only one who thinks so.
However, since there were only 24 replies in this thread, I dare say that serious discussions on the protection of American agriculture is not yet ready to happen.

What scares me the most is the type of plague that is spread by people instead of rats. This was the case with the Black Death in Europe.
It was spread very rapidly from person-to-person via the lungs. People didn't feel sick gradually so they were out and about spreading disease practically until they dropped dead.
The Russians weaponized this germ and it is resistant to antibiotics. Originally the germ comes from from marmots.

Although there appears to be some controversy about what caused Europe's "Black Death", many researchers seem to agree that it was a combination of Beubonic and Pneumonic Plague bacteria. However, Beubonic Plague is spread by fleas on rodents, in the case of Europe, rats. Pneumonic Plague is the more dangerous version having the capability of being spread from host to host by a sneeze or cough. Pneumonic plague can kill its host within a few days.
I would agree that bioterrorism is something to be very concerned about. However, we should not forget about ag-terrorism. A single ag-terrorism event has the potential of adversely affecting many more people, and lasting much longer, than a single bioterror event.
