Advocates of Marx's Theories on Socialism Testify Before Senate
The New York Times Archives [NO LINK] | September 21, 1883

Posted on 12/04/2004 11:11:41 AM PST by nwrep

Sep 21, 1883: Karl Marx's theories on Socialism were expounded at length yesterday before the Senate Committee on Labor and Education by Dr. Adolph Douai of the Volks-Zeitung.

Mr. Erastus D. Goodwin, a farmer from Falls Village, Conn. appeared as an advocate of "free trade", or at least a change in the tariff which would permit the importation of raw materials free of duty. Such a change would, in his opinion, be of great benefit to both the agricultural and industrial laborer.

At today's hearing, Mr. F.B. Thurber will be heard in advocacy of anti-monopoly principles.

I know how!

You surprised her, and made her laugh.

If i got a line like that, I'd go out with the guy just to see what THIS lunatic was like in RL!

I hope it was a nice date.

It was a nice date actually.
I miss things like that though, the stuff of dating.
The walk by the old flood control dam on the Neversink was fun.

Today, half the Senate regularly votes for Marx's agenda.

Luckily we don't talk much about democrat vs. republican type stuff in there.

Well, I guess that helps, LOL! Glad we've got you representing the Lonely Conservatives, at least! :)

Please don't tell me that JK shot a Vietkong in his pajapams, but how he got in his pajamas, he didn't know.

JK never forgets a face--but in Teresa's case, he'll be glad to make an exception.

Marx acknowledged the incontrovertible arguments for free trade, just as he acknowledged the laws of gravity.

He may have been a socialist, but he wasn't a fool.

Welcome. I liked your observation. Very poignant.

I think we're giving someone the very strong impression that relatively new posters are not allowed to use irony and sarcasm.

I admit to being somewhat 'touchy' when Krauts are mentioned.
My ancestry is kinda schizophrenic when it comes to that.
My Great-grandfather had a brother die in WWI due to Mustard Gas.
He lingered awhile before finally succumbing.
Gave such an impression to my great-grandfather that he hated all Germans.
(He was German mind you.)

I kinda inherited strong feelings on the subject of Germans immigrating and America in general.

So pay me no mind, I babble at times, rant at others, and even come out with things that make one laugh and spray their monitor with whatever they are drinking.

You're probably right.

And you're usually very reasonable.

This is me, backing off.
