Bush was 're-elected by Porsche drivers'

By David Rennie in Washington
(Filed: 07/12/2004)

The backroom wizards who won the American presidential election for George W Bush have disclosed how they tracked down every last Republican, even in traditionally unfriendly districts.

Using market research more normally reserved for the launch of a new soap powder or soft drink, they drew up a database indicating the likely political persuasion of every consumer, based on car brands, hobbies and favourite television programmes.

Research showed that the most Republican car was Porsche Having found America's water-skiing, golf-loving Porsche drivers, they then persuaded them to vote. Bush strategists told the New York Times that they targeted advertising minutely, sending advertising dollars to small, sometimes, tiny niche broadcasters and media outlets - from religious and country music radio outlets, to video screens hanging in a chain of gymnasiums.

Their research told them that the most Republican car marques were Porsche, followed by Jaguar, Land Rover, and General Motors. Other luxury car-makers that scored well among conservatives were Audi, Lexus and Jeep.

Volvo, Subaru and Volkswagen owners showed a strong Democratic bias. In general, Middle Americans favoured US-built vehicles. Sports were also a key indicator. Republicans loved golf, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, power-boating and riding horses.

Out of 34 recreational activities studied, only three were solid Democratic indicators: dancing, casino gambling and antique-shopping.

At any given time, Democrats were 15 per cent more likely to be watching television than Republicans, with top Democratic programmes being game shows and celebrity court cases.

Dude, the Welfare Queen has a new Big Screen!

About a year ago, a local TV news report here in Los Angeles was wailing
about how this mismanaged city and state were going to be forced to cut back
on their subsidy for housing for some folks.
(Don't get me wrong...we should try to do the best we can for "the least of these".)

One of the people affected was a fellow on disability...but he sure didn't
have any problems standing up, walking around and groaning while
standing in from of the thin-screen plasma in his subsidized apartment.

After seeing/hearing that, I simply prayed the fellow was a military vet
who'd earned that apartment and TV...

Wow, check out HC bringin' into the open what one usually mocks via FReepmail! He's feelin' manly tonight!

Or perhaps he's feelin' no pain, it being the season for eggnog and all. ;)

For a disabled vet, I have no problem with getting the guy a nice place and a comfortable life.

Im my roommates case, one girl in particular comes to mind. I went over there, (yes, free food tempted even me...hehe)

She had a very nice apartment in the part of town real people live in...hehe.

Big screen, Computer w/broadband, stereo, brown leather couch sysyem, you name it, she had it. Drove a nice, newer Cavalier I think.

Anyhow, she had two kids by two dads, got two checks every month. Then since she was unemployed single mom with kids, she got a basket of assistance. Food Card (like ATM), insurance, and a little extra money.
Later found out her apartment was only costing her 40.00/month, it was subsidized.

To really put the icing on the cake, due to her "circumstances", she had a tuition waiver through the state and could take classes for free at any state school if she wanted.
She enrolled in the occasional nursing class, but I think she was on a 7 year program for a 4 year degree.

But she did have all real ice cream and real pop, not Sam's Choice!

Many years ago, when the new 911 Targa whale tail was intoduced, Porsch had what I think was the best ad campaign ever. They identified the zipcodes that had the desired demographics of their raket market..single, higher income males..and they had a beautiful poster of the car made..and mailed to each person..came in a cardboard tube..hig class..but when you unrolled, it, and it was like 2' x 3'..on the license plate of the car was "your name"..I still have mine somewheres..

I got one of those too, but they must have got the demographics wrong . . . I was married with two kids in college, making my living as a design engineer. I hung the poster on the wall of my modest cubicle. But I was the owner of a 1956 Porsche 356, which was and still is "awaiting restoration" LOL

"Of all the SUV's, the only ones I saw a TON of Kerry stickers on was the "Jeep Liberty"."

Thats cause a Jeep Liberty is a Jeep Cherokee after a sex change operation.

"How about a Ford truck?"

It's not all bones, lol.

I have a Ford and a Chevy truck.

Right. And they keep reading the socialist propaganda in the AARP Bulletin, their daily rag newspaper, or listening to Peter Puke of ABC and watching soaps all day.
