You need to stop doing your serious political thinking after you've been visiting the family still. Dreier is Feinstein/Boxer in drag.

Hey Dane, is KFI still coming in loud and clear down in your Pennsylvania bunker?

Say hi to that groundhog for all the Californians.

Prop 187 passed 60/40 BUT in the aftermath the DUmbocrats and their oh so willing liberal press allies hung it around Republican necks as if we're all racists.

Here is the major disagreement, and the problem with the CA GOP. Hung WHAT exactly? I hear this all the time from old CA Republicans, but what part of "it won" is so frightening to you? I mean, everybody wants to pee themselves and hide in a corner when someone calls them a racist, sure, but the problems of the GOP go far beyond what other people are saying about them. They don't do anything but get defensive, they aren't a party of ideas, and therefore they get destroyed because I know a lot of conservatives here who are non partisan who don't trust them. Its call personal responsibilty, they totally lack it, and calling the Dems the "DUmbocrats" is indicitive of this systematic problem with the GOP, when they have to do the heavy lifting, they find the nearest Dem to demonize. Hey, they don't call them "The Evil Party" for nothing, but they also don't call the GOP "The Stupid Party" erroneously either. They are in power now, they aren't just ignoring the immigration issue while the Dems with horns growing out of their heads are being mean and calling them names...no. They are pushing for loosening of rules about illegal employment, openingly fighting and defeating provisions against drivers licenses for illegals, pushing for defacto-amnesty. This is the Republican Party we are talking about here. They control the CA Gov, The House, the Senate, and the Presidency. Don't you think this reflexive demonizing of the Dems is being taken a little too far?

Wasn't it Gray Davis who refused to appeal the court action on 187?

Yes, when he ruled Republicans were forced to be silent on outrageous issues like the will of the people being subverted. Its all his fault.

We're gonna find out next year just how serious congress is about fixing some of these problems. Jim Sensenbrenner will see to it there's a serious debate and vote.

Well, keep your eyes peeled, I am certain you are in for a surprise. The truth is that YOU are gonna find out next year just how serious congress is about fixing these problems, then I hope you wake up. I am saddened and depressed to admit that I already have found out where the sentiments are in Washington. What you are going to see is the amazing power of the agriculture industry, the construction industry, and the hotel industry and others have over politicians in the GOP. Mark my words.

Let me plead with you to stop making the same mistake Republicans have been in this state for 15 years. Worrying about being called racist is pure "boob bate for the Bubba's" total misdirection to appeal to the arm chair political strategists to mash over. Hispanics made up only 1 million new votes in the last election, but a full 80% of our 260 million population supports enforcing our borders. You need to be following the money, this sellout has nothing to do with being called names, and everything with CHEAP LABOR. Minimum wage laws are too high in this country, but rather than fight about that, they choose this backhanded way of addressing it. Socializing the costs, privatizing the profits. The problem that the removal of Dreier would begin to address is that we as Republicans are not going to played for fools while Tiujanization of our cities continues unabated. We have but one card we hold, voting. In a huge majority where the GOP retains control of the Rules committee regardless. If we throw that away because of fear that a new guy MIGHT not win, we don't deserve the great country our parents gave us.

The state GOP never endorses a challenger to a sitting Republican, absent the incumbent actually being a convicted felon. That's because (a) the challenger is unlikely to win, even with state party backing, and (b) the incumbent will seek revenge.

That's like doctors saying, "Gee, you've got a pretty big malignant tumor growing there but we don't want to risk getting any blood on our Rolexes so....good luck with that eh."

>> Why don't you concentrate on removing Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi, or Maxine Waters instead of committing politcal suicide? <<

Boxer -- Beatable in THEORY with the PERFECT candidate, but forget about it as long as California has open borders and the RINO infested California GOP keeps running medoicre "opposition" to her.

Nancy Pelosi -- In ULTRA safe RAT district that would vote for Kim Jong Il if he was the ballot with a "D" next to his name.

Maxine Waters -- See above.

Orange county is not even all that "conservative". There's something very strange when "the most Republican county in California" elects the likes of Loretta Sanchez.

OK, you make a sound argument about the current situation but I thought it was the Senate that stripped the recent bill of the provisions the house had already passed on the subject. Drier is in the House.

BTW this is an extremely complex issue. So what are your ideal solutions besides taking out Drier? There's millions of illegals in the U.S. and about half of them got off airplanes, they're not all from TJ.

Yes, whenever the primary is scheduled. But the groundwork for the primary probably starts in 2005,

It seems you've thought it all through.

You realize that this cuts both ways, right?

It keeps the state GOP from endorsing Duncan Hunter's primary opponent.

But you keep being a little crybaby. It'll make you feel better--at the expense of being effective.

Sanchez represents the Democratic portion of Orange County. Bob Dornan lost in 1996 because he forgot that he had to work really hard each election to keep his seat. He ran a vanity campaign for President, and his district was talking about putting his face on milk cartons.

... New York know nothings.

Are you talking about J&K? I thought those morons were from N'Joirsy. They are like circus clowns in a three ringer. Making fools of themselves with no idea of what is occurring in the other rings.

Of course no one enjoys the status quo. What do you suggest -- Dreier voted out of office and replaced with another Loretta Sanchez or even worse?

Never forget that the most important vote a legislator ever makes is the one for leadership. Who do you trust to vote for the right leadership, Dreier or Feinstein?

The district is indeed a safe GOP seat. I think it 46% to 32% for Republicans.

That's what I figured. So the opposition to a primary is puzzling to me. Politicians are like diapers, they need changed periodicly and for the same reason.

It seems you've thought it all through.

Actually I am not that knowledgeable about how campaigns are run. I am just going from what I have heard strategists talk about.

Also, it just seems like common sense, you just don't all of a sudden say, "Well, there's nothing good on TV...I think I'll challenge a 20year hack in a primary."

C'mon man...crybaby?

Look, I appreciate the arguments on your side and if Dreier were a relative newbie, I would agree.
But Dreier and his ilk are career politicians who have their own agenda. If that agenda happens to be good for the country then that's just a happy coincidence but if it's not then, oh well.

Also, I can appreciate that you are worried about losing effectiveness. After all it is better to be in power than not.
What level of compromise is tolerable in order to keep that effectiveness? What happens when that compromise becomes corrosive to the long term health and safety of the country?

OK, you make a sound argument about the current situation but I thought it was the Senate that stripped the recent bill of the provisions the house had already passed on the subject. Drier is in the House.

Dreier opposed the license provisions, and his leadership helped force the stalemate that made Sensinbrenner famous, but regardless, my opposition to Dreier goes way before this controversy.

So what are your ideal solutions besides taking out Drier? There's millions of illegals in the U.S. and about half of them got off airplanes, they're not all from TJ.

Its all about money, an issue that a lot of people on here never push for is enforcement of the existing laws concerning the hiring of illegals. We don't have to arrest them all, we are talking about businessmen who, when it comes to their own life-are scared to death of getting in trouble. If there were a handful of high profile arrests for the felonies perpetrated, you would see millions of jobs dry up for the cash-only undercutters.

2nd would be the enforcement of things like AZ's prop 200, or our own 187. There is a reason why the politicians go to such lengths, insulting our intelligence as well as our freedoms to stop this. This aid to the families of the cheap laborer is the linch-pin. You take these 2 things away and I think the 10-15 million illegals substantially decrease.

How do you make that happen? Well, you've seen what they'll do about illegals and driver's licenses, 187, and right now with 200-they'd fight even harder about arresting business owners, some of whom are their biggest contributors. There is no easy solution there, other than throwing out some of their biggest advocates in Washington.

It's just not that simple. I was an employer. I-9 is the form required to be provided the employer to validate legal status. I had a woman working for me for 2 years, when I had to lay her off she went to file for unemployment at which time the Government declared her illegal and uneligible for benefits. For the entire 2 years they were more than willing to take weekly contributions from her paycheck (SUI). Perhaps they should have notified me of her status in the beginning. Or perhaps you think I should have been jailed? Of course I tried to do the right thing but obviously failed by accepting what must have been a bogus govt form.

The drivers license issue is problematic. I think they should be qualified for licenses(with an asterik of some sort). If millions are driving around without licenses or insurance it hurts us all. As I said these are complex issues, but indeed in need of some major overhaul, that's for sure.
