HOUSTON -- A South African woman whose arrest heightened fears that terrorists were slipping across the U.S.-Mexico border has been sentenced to time served and will be deported.
Farida Goolam Mahomed Ahmed, sentenced Tuesday, had been in custody since July 19, when Border Patrol officers at the airport stopped her as she tried to board a plane for New York; she did not have a visa to travel in the United States.
The officers later discovered her passport had three pages ripped out of it.

Nothing to see here ... back to sleep.
ZzzzZzZZZz
So what is this?
We don't have anything to pin a terrorism conviction on, so we treat it as a penny-ante immigration violation and turn her loose to try it again?
Strange. Maybe they want to see where she goes?
Ping
We are totally screwed. A CIA that sucks big ones and a major Homeland Insecurity Dept with an open border policy for terrorists. Expect a major attack. We are much too politically correct to avoid it.
And there are leftists putting water out in the desert to help them safely cross. Those people should be deported as well.
Go kick them over, then pee in them.

This is discrimination. The government doesn't make other nationalities serve jail time the first time they're caught. We wouldn't have the Mexican invasion if they were treated this way.
Seems to be the current fad since 9-11. "Thank you sir! May I have another!"
It will happen..and when it does, there will be hell to pay by Bush for keeping his eyes on the horizon, and stepping over a cliff right at his own feet.
Time served? Unreal.

Nancy Herrera, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office, said she could not comment. A spokesman for the FBI office in San Antonio did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
The "business as usual" approach is going to get some people murdered at some point. It's understandable that not every terrorism-linked occurrence be publicized, but the Bush Administration is too patronizing too frequently.
Agreed. Without border security we are completely vulnurable.

How? The border has huge blacked out areas not monitered. If she gets to certain parts of AZ and NM border she will completely disappear. She won't make the same mistake again, God help us.
Well, at least she got deported. A little good news.
Well, nothing will change until they pull off another big one. At least it will likely be in a blue city in a blue state.
