MB "Well, I can see that you are still stuck at the emotional level of a fourteen year old."

"I think what gridlock meant was that sexual attraction alone is insufficient to sustain a long-term relationship."

I think what gridlock meant was that sex makes a strong bond with your first partner. That breakup with your first sexual partner is most painful and difficult (assuming there was a relationship to break from). Then, with each successive partner, the bond is less strong and the breakup less painful (easier).

I don't think GL was applying the duct tape theory to marriage. Although I do think that marriage is much more fun if you keep a case of duct tape on hand at all times ;)

...perhaps gridlock will clarify?

"Actually, that's not what Gridlock said."

That’s what I thought he said, but Sun Soldier also has a reasonable take:

“I think what gridlock meant was that sex makes a strong bond with your first partner. That breakup with your first sexual partner is most painful and difficult (assuming there was a relationship to break from). Then, with each successive partner, the bond is less strong and the breakup less painful (easier).”

I guess we do need gridlock to clarify.

I didn't gang up on you, Lisa. I asked some questions. You have supplied the answers. Thank you.

With the further information, I feel this woman should go to a homeless shelter where they can provide for needs until a job and housing are acquired. No public assistance after that. As an adult she needs to take complete responsibility of her situation, changing what is wrong to make a better life for her children. Hopefully she can find the obvious help/direction she desperately needs. Hopefully she has a heart willing and open to hear/learn/change.

My mother worked 2 jobs to maintain a meager life for her 4 daughters (no child support). She could have applied for govt assistance but refused. We learned to make ends meet with what we had. Our babysitting funds (at 25 cents an hour) were put into a family $ jar and used for necessities or a 5 cent ice cream as a treat. We shopped at thrift stores and learned to prepare foods w/in our budget. Our home was small, simple, and clean. We grew up with decency and pride, no matter our financial situation.

"To quote Billy Crystal..."

Not to quibble, but that's "Women need a reason to have sex; men just need a place."

-----

Ah--even better. That's what I get for quoting secondhand. Although it opens up all sorts of speculation on reasons...
