Thank God we were able to energize the base and a lot of heretofore uninvolved voters to win the day. After thanking God for His influence, we can thank the Swifties, our own activism through places like FR, talk radio, and so many others for that.
It's the electoral vote that counts.
True... but this election will be seen as the Democrats high-water mark. They had an unprecented turnout, they stoked up the anti-Bush fervor, spent millions and had a friendly mainstream media in their corner - and they still LOST.
Yes, JK and the Dems had a mighty impressive turnout. They were able to fire up their base (or manufacture votes in record number--I suspect a combination of the two). It would have been a coup d'theatre, except for one thing they did not foresee--W inspired even more people to turn out in support of him. Fate has a played its cruel, mocking role once again for the Dems--they achieved their goal of a massive turnout, having incited millions cast their vote for the Gray Blur--only to be outdone in heroic fashion by the foot soldiers carrying the Republican banner.
The RNC did a fantastic job this time out, IMO. They still have a ways to go in immeatiatly countering liberal spin on the talking head shows but now, at least, the have a solid GOTV strategy.
Now the work really begins.
Yes, but unlike his totals, each of our votes has only one live voter responsible for it.
dude, its over 20 years later
the population has grown by almost 50mil since then, its really not a huge shock the loser in a relatively close election with high turnout 20 years later would break the record
"Thank God we were able to energize the base...we can thank the Swifties, our own activism..."
Thanks also to Chris Matthews' assault on Michelle Malkin and his barking boyo silencing of John O'Neil; Huge thanks to Lawrence O'Donnell.
Thanks to ex-seminarian, multi-millionaire movie mogul Michael Moore, and to former President Carter for allowing Moore to sit next to him in the presidential box at the Democrat convention for all the world to see.
Thanks to Dan Rather, CBS, the New York Times.
Thanks to Whoopie Goldberg, "the heart and soul of America."
Thanks to Al Gore and Ted Kennedy. America was listening.
Thanks to the DNC for letting Al Sharpton exceed the time limit at the Dem convention so he could show America the core values of the Dems. America was watching.
Thanks to the unknow CIA guy who left his hat in Kerry's briefcase on that memorable Christmas in Cambodia.
Most of all, thanks to the less than ten percent of Dem caucuses who gave the country, "Primal John," with his head-case fantasies and his howling emptiness.
For all of these, and more, we thank Thee.
What about as a % of the total population? Reagan's landslide was in 1988, 16 years ago when the US population was smaller.
