I do exactly the same thing. And when we notified our customers as to the reason why we were closing on Sunday's, not one of them complained. To the contrary, many congratulated us for taking this position.

No, I want the US to stay as it has been and not become more Muslim-like. One of the distinguishing features of this country has been that Christmas has been honored and respected, by stores closing. In contrast, one of the distinguishing features of life in a Muslim country is that Dec. 25 is treated like every other day, the stores are open and retail thrives. You want the Muslim's tradition of ignoring Christmas introduced to the US. I don't - and that's the difference between us.

You have used the words "Muslim", "Moslem", and "ACLU". Since all Taliban are Muslim and some ACLU members are also Muslim, YOU OBVIOUSLY BELIEVE THAT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TALIBAN. I'm just trying to use your own logic here - don't hate me for that.
You're comfortable with importing that Moslem tradition to the US. I'm not.
You have no idea what I am "comfortable" with or "uncomfortable" with. So I'll give you one free clue - what I AM extremely uncomfortable with is the concept of attempting to force everybody to observe your own religious holidays. That IS Taliban-esque behavior.

Nowhere on this thread have I said that we should ignore Christmas. On the contrary, I've said that I celebrate it. And I've said that if it is treated as an ordinary business day, that the cultural significance of Christmas would be threatened.
My position, which has been consistent on this thread, is that having a grocery store open on Christmas Day is no threat to Christmas or Christians.
It is no different than gas stations which are open. Many aren't, but some are, and those that need gasoline on that day are glad because of it.

How does it "honor" Christmas and Christianity to strand a motorist or force her to camp out on the side of a highway in her car for 24 hours when she runs out of gas on the way to Grandma's house?

Nobody is saying you have to go pray. Just take the day off and spend some time with your kid so he doesn't go smashing the windows out of the neighbors cars, or sticking objects in his face. Buy him a Christmas present, like a fishing rod and take him fishing the next time you get a day off.

My husband will probably be working on Christmas this year for that same reason. We don't have kids, or really any family commitments on holidays. But the guys he works with do, and someone has to be there. So he works them. Even though he doesn't get paid any extra anymore

Almost aLL the grocery stores in my area are open on Christmas. I guess for some lonely or non-Christian people that might be a blessing.
Maybe Safeway can offer the union a counterproposal to close on MLK Day instead.
