Thanks for the tip... I missed the Leonids (don't remember whether it was clouded over or if I simply forgot)...

Received an e-mail from an astronomer friend. Comet Machholz is visible to the nekkid eye through Dec 22nd. Looking to the south east it can be seen just to the right of Rigel which is the foot of the constellation Orion. On Dec 13th, (according to a star chart that came with the e-mail) it will be directly to the right about 15%.

There is a website called Heavens above where you can register for free. when you enter your home city it will provide star charts, satellite passages, ISS transit info and Shuttle when it's flyin'.

try WWW.Heavens-above.com

If you were disappointed with the meager showing put on by this year's Leonid meteor shower, don't fret.

No way! This years was the best I had ever seen.

I thought there was suppose to be one in November, but I missed it if there was. Thanks for the 'heads up' on this one.

Drat, we are having a winter storm up here in MI. for the next several months! All it seems to do is either rain or snow in this place.

Thanks for the info. I'm at work here in Va. Went outside for about 5 minutes and saw three meteors in the east.

Saw a couple around 10:30 PM here on the Jersey coast, one was pretty bright - I didn't think much of it because I will see one every now and again when I go out for my evening walk. We have a beautiful clear night here, so I'll have to pop outside a little later to check things out. Thanks for the heads up!

Saw a couple of Geminids last night when I was out tracking Comet Machholz. Very slow, very bright. There were quite a few meteors late last week too, but they seemed to be from one of the Orion radiants.

Was Monday the only night to watch or is this a shower that will last for a few days or weeks?
