he got stock options for serving on the board of directors, when the company went public, he made money.

let's keep eating our own, while the Dems coast with people like Terry McAuliffe and his Global Crossing money (which sure as hell was dirty). Corzine with his goldman sachs loot, Maria Cantwell, etc.

I cannot traduce the Bush administration too much for assuming that Kerik would not flat out lie to them. Who could have imagined that he would be that stupid and character flawed?

I could look at the guy and tell you that.

"what does hiring an illegal alien have to do with a person's character?"

Be faithful in the little things, so you can be trusted with greater things. That's what I get out of this.

I don't have a problem with anyone making money. However, Kerik exercised his options LAST MONTH, after the election. He had to know at that time that he was a strong contender for the job and that these transactions would at least raise suspicions.

Like they are really going to do anything about illegal immigration.

If the above is true, the guy lied. Better to find that out now, rather than later, that the guy has a character flaw (he's a liar) that renders him unfit to serve.

Amen to that (if true). The Newsweek story about unpaid condo maintenaince fees is nonsense. I myself I have involved in such litigation. It is common. But this is messed up.

Excellent point.  How many times have you wished you could have stepped in and made a statemmet for W/Condi/Colin/Rummy?  (Notice how I left Ash and Cheney off that list?)

it was in fact more honest to exercise them last month - before becoming DHS head. This way, any stock appreciation in TASR due to contracts with DHS, Kerik would not have benefitted from those gains - which he should not have.

I agree, but I still find it odd that he withdrew so abrubtly. I just wonder if there wasn't some larger issue that we are unaware of.

I wonder what "services rendered" he provided to Taser for the 6 million?

We could afford to have live in help. Is this something of which I should be ashamed?

Did you pay an American, legally? Or hire illegal aliens, illegally? If the latter, then yes, you should certainly be ashamed.

I think you check out people who are coming into your home and watching your children, more carefully than you do a gardener.

Plus, illegal alien nannies have been a problem in the past.

Well Tom your faith in the Bushies is restored. They did ask Kerik about nannys.

"It was only after Kerik said he dug deeper and found out that a woman he employed to help his family while he was training cops in Iraq didn't have the proper working papers, the Washington Post reported.

"This was asked of me by the president's staff when this was in the vetting process," he said. "It wasn't the vetting process [that is at fault]. This was my fault. Something I should have focused on earlier."

"I'll taka a shot. Their careers are more important than their kids?"

One can imagine where the American public fits on that scale - right at the bottom of importance.

Laws are for people like us, not them.

How true.
I'm looking for a new cleaning lady, and one of my requirements is a good knowledge of English, and that is the first law for me.
I had an American cleaning lady for 10 years and there really is no substitute. Prior to that, we had Polish-American company, and communication was sometimes difficult.
It makes me furious to see these wealthy people skirting/breaking these laws...
