Next, they will be blaming teachers for "dumb" students.

Every car should have a mandatory breathalizer to start up.

Yea, cars should also have some way to test your blood to make sure you arent likely going to have a stroke, heart attack, coronary, seizure or anything else that may affect your driving. /sarcasm

I know exactly what you mean, and it's not just cocktail waitresses that put up with that mentality and I know you know what I mean.

Even just as a customer, the bouncer can quickly become a girl's best friend.

A place I used to hang out in years ago, started having a bouncer on duty during Friday happy hour, because some people were getting too happy. The bouncer helped make the bartenders' lives much more pleasant when it came to cutting off and/or kicking some people out. And I'm not talking about some corner dive, this was a very upscale place frequented by the movers and shakers of the community - who tended to be the worst offenders.

So often people seem to assume that those who "have too much" on a Friday night are uneducated, low class trailer trash - when in fact many of them are highly educated professionals. Over the years I have driven home far more intoxicated lawyers than construction workers.

If drinking and driving are illegal, why are there parking lots at bars?

That is one of my all time favorite lines!!!!!

Very true! The other thing is, I know a lot of bouncers had troubles of their own...namely of the female variety. It's not just guys that get happy hands, lol. And the girls were a lot more aggressive and/or bold, too.

The upscale types usually annoyed me...they had an entitlement thing that usually led them to believe they could treat anyone like crap. OTOH, I had a former pro football player as a regular, and he was always a doll. Tipped extremely well, and never ever got happy hands. I even rescued him a time or two when he'd had a few and the girls started hanging around looking for a handout. Not to mention a couple of times when he tried to tip me $50 for one round of drinks. He was way too nice to let someone take advantage. He, btw, never ever drove home.

And while we're at it, why don't we put drivers in a sound proof bubble so the driver is not distracted by conversations with anyone else in the vehicle. The bubble should also block out cell phones. No radios or CD players either. Only street sounds are permitted to enter the bubble so the driver can hear sirens./sarcasm

Well, if the bars didn't hire such good looking hunks as bouncers............LOL!!!

The upscale ones always annoyed me, particularly when I had little choice in associating with them because, through the nature of my work, I was considered one of them. And they were always the ones that either got kicked out, or poured into a cab. And there was never an apology forthcoming from their mouths for their behavior while drunk.

The gals that worked in the corner pubs always seemed to have it easier than those that worked in the "upscale" establishments. IMO.

I don't know what has changed over the years, but it seems tha less and less men are working behind the bar anymore. Not that I go out all that often anymore, but I can't remember the last time I was served a beer at a bar by a man.

What did I get for being the designated driver last night? I got to pay almost 2 bucks for every Pepsi I drank and 6 bucks for a burger. Then I got a hassle from the owner for pointing it out.

I no longer drink and as such am always the designated driver when my friends and I go out. I recntly had a bar charge me for a f!@#$ng GLASS OF WATER!

I'm not saying let me have everything on the house but come on here! I guess I was taking away from the cab business which often gives kickbacks to the bars for calling them.

I know that female bartenders tend to get tipped better, too, LOL.

When I was working at the one bar, I had a second job at a neighborhood bar and grill. I made better tips at my second job, put up with far fewer hassles (though I did run into a couple of real whack-jobs)and didn't have to wear shorts. I wore jeans and a tee shirt, scraped my hair back in a pony tail, had fewer tables, and made a mint. My other job, I would literally be carrying three trays stacked on top of each other (this was a popular college bar with many quarter draw and well nights) while trying to fend off drunk frat boys who thought it would be funny to try and tickle me while I'm carrying them. I told one guy, you touch me, I'm dropping the whole stack and you'll have to pay for em. He backed off right quick, lol.

If I'da had my druthers, I would have worked full time at the neighborhood joint, but alas, I couldn't get the shifts.

Now that you mention it, I realize all of our bouncers WERE pretty darn cute, LOL!

Having done the work, I tend to tip well, regardless of the gender of the the bartender/server.

I always hated working with/around the "college crowd." For some reason they thoguht we were stupid and they could pass off their fake IDs on us. And then cause a scene when thrown out.

Neighborhood joints have always been my favorite foreither working or hanging out. Where we live now, the closest thing to a neighborhood joint is the Moose Lodge, but I only show up there for meetings, unless someone else is driving, because it's nearly 15 miles away and out on the highway.

I do not and will not condone drunk driving, but I do think the DUI laws have gotten out of control. But I do believe in personal responsibility and would never, ever name the establishment I was in were I ever to be in the position of having to answer such a question.

Nobody MADE me have a beer but me and no one is to blame but me.

It's been fun chatting with you - but I must run, time to take my daughter to see Santa and then be back for an online meeting in an hour.

"LOL!!!! My husband is also an incurable flirt!"

I have defined bounderies. Something about the quality of my wifes voice when she asks "are you having fun?" tells me I need to stop encouraging her friends.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Santa was fun - he was riding around in a golf cart along the highway. Cars passing by were all honking their horns. My meeting is driving me nuts.

Huh? Whatever happened to lines at the mall, LOL? I am taking my boys to see Santa at Mr. Ex's Christmas party next Saturday.

I'm sorry your meeting stinks...I'm not looking forward to the training calls I have coming up for my new business. They're necessary, but kind of a drag. Then again, I've never run a business before, so I'd do better to pay attention to folks who have, lol.

Hope it goes better soon. Maybe next time, I'll just send a freepmail instead of hijacking a thread, though, lol. I'm just too lazy to cut and paste right now.

His blood-alcohol level was 0.215 percent -- more than twice the legal threshold.

Yeah, but if this guy was a "professional drunk" that BA could leave him looking like he was okay. I see drunks in the ER all the time and am astounded when someone walking and talking, with only a little slurred speech, comes in with a BA of over 300, sometimes 400. It's BS to expect a bartender or waiter to be able to make that kind of call.

LOL!!! Hijacking a thread is so much fun, though!!!

The nearest mall to me is a good 50 miles away. But a friend that owns a seafood market up the road has Santa come to visit on Sundays in December and the place is right on the highway. fortunately I can get there and home without ever having to get on the highway! I am now done with the "seeing" Santa for this year.

Running a business can be a lot of fun - but also very frustrating. I wish I had some training before I dove into it. I wish you much luck and success on you venture.

I am as anti-lawsuit as the next person is, however, serving alcohol to an obviously intoxicated person should have consequences.

Yes it should.

For the person requesting the service.

After all in my younger years I purchased a home within walking distance of my favorite pub.

Intoxicated or not, I never got behind the wheel of a vehicle after visiting the pub. I walked...

Is it to the point now that Prudence dictates that one just doesn't drink anymore?

The bartender is performing a service, NOT destroying society via drunk drivers.

Let's leave THAT to the driver!

This article is slightly misleading because there are state laws which do NOT allow such liability. I suspect this reporter is friends with a lawyer/law firm which is seeking a new cash cow.

If this type of conduct is upheld then all the DUI laws should be dumped because the driver was not responsible, they were drunk.

Bet yer boots, it is! :)

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been running your business? From what I understand, it can take some time to really get going. Of course, I am plugging into an existing business, and will in some ways, be more like an independent contractor, but I will keep the money I make (minus Uncle Sam's cut, of course). I am very lucky...I have a mentor who has trod the same path I can call on for advice and support.
