It has to be said right,Dat wooud be n da butt Bob
The first things that came to my mind were the Berlin wall coming down, Bill Clinton getting elected,(I was so sick) Waco's fire and the Randy Weaver atrocity, (I live in Idaho and knew that those neighbors weren't white supremsists.), and Reagans funeral.
The Speedy Alkaselzer ads, and Ipana toothpaste ads with Bucky Beever
2. Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald, seen live, 11-24(?)-1963
3. The Challenger disaster, seen live, 1-28-86.

That was always my favorite episode.
S-L-O-W D-O-W-N
"It a Festivus miracle!"
"Me and Dudley are going over to Mr. Hooper's bike shop"
Okay, they've missed the greatest moment in television: The "Apache Bris" with Johnny Carson.
Two. When Bob Newhart woke up on the last show about the
Vermont Country Inn and turned on the light, and you
expected Mary Frann to come out from under the covers, but
it was Suzanne Pleshette from the old Bob Newhart show.
St. Elsewhere. . the last show when the little autistic
boy is shaking the snow globe and you realize that the whole
hospital drama was created in the mind of the little boy
because of the building in the snow globe. The doctors
weren't really doctors, they were his grandfather and his
father (who was a laborer of some sort in real life). It
made one think about the inner life of an autistic or
handicapped person.
Actually it's more than two. When a whole season of Dallas
was Pam's dream. (I wasn't watching it much then anyway, so
didn't get mad.)
Didn't her 'dress in the window' comment get the longest laughter ever?
I cite three examples:
1. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy and its aftermath. Once we got the breaking news of President Kennedy's shooting, the major TV networks (remember, we were still many years for the widespread development of cable TV) pretty much ditched their normal programming and in effect stayed on this story non-stop until after the funeral.
2. The Moon landing from the Apollo 11 flight. Again, because all the TV networks were covering the story, everyone remembers how enthralling it was to see astronauts Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin walk on the moon that evening of July 20, 1969.
3. The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Once the WTC North Tower was attacked at the start, all the over-air broadcast networks and cable news outlets covered the story pretty much non-stop for two-three days straight--in some cases four-five days straight! The impact was particularly strong because of the fact it stopped all stock market activity for the week and also stopped all sporting event activity until the Monday after the attacks.
I think #3 of the list I mentioned is the most memorable moment because of the non-stop saturation coverage by everybody.
I'm with you. For those of us old enough to have viewed it at the time, Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon seemed like a miracle. I can't describe the feeling of suspense, awe and wonder. The rest of the world stopped, and was with us, for that one day.
Another special moment for those of us around at the time was the special Apollo 8 Christmas Eve broadcast, "In the beginning, God..."

The movie with Kurt Russell was super and it a must-see. The actual game against the Russians was on tape delay. The gold medal game against Finland was shown live.
After the list was shown, Walter Cronkite basically said those words in agreement to what you wrote.
That was 1996 but it was a 4 game sweep for the Avs over Florida. The last game (game 4) was 3 OTs.
Oh sure, I recall. You might enjoy this:
