To me it was when Ralph/Jackie Gleason aka The Great One closed most Honeymooners episodes by saying to Alice/Audrey Meadows Baby you're the Greatest! and then giving her a great big kiss.

Agnes Moorehead was the first "Margo Lane". Although, that was radio.

I know, I was just being kinda sarcastic. the dark haired girl (alexandra paul?) always looked so un-enhanced next to the others.

A Sunday afternoon in January 1976. The Soviet Red Army hockey team, touring North America, was in the process of dominating various NHL teams. The defending champ Philadelphia Flyers then played them on national TV. Outside, various human rights' groups were protesting the Soviets. Inside, as the game was being played, Ed Van Impe of the Flyers flattened Soviet star Valeri Kharlamov and the Soviets quit! Right there on national TV, they skated off the ice because of excessive roughness. They only came back onto the ice when told they wouldn't get paid. Flyers won 4-1. This was four years before the greatest moments in sports history, IMHO, the 1980 US Olympic hockey team.

I was not aware of that, Calvin.

Though one of her best performances was on "The Twilight Zone". I forget the name of the episode. As a mute old crone out in the swamps. Who has a flying saucer land on her roof...

Jack.

Did you ever hear the off-air comments of Howard?

No, I didn't. But if you're going to tell me that the self-centered, insecure Cosell said something like Lennon deserved it, don't bother telling me.

Cosell could be quite the contrarian at times, standing up against the "establishment" for a good cause. At other times, he was just a loudmouth *sshole!

Now you have me curious ..... since I did a Google search and found nothing about "off air comments", what have you heard that Cosell said?

********

"I have been called obnoxious, sarcastic, confrontational and a know-it-all. ... Of course I am all of those things." — Howard Cosell

Yeah, Alexdandra was also the least popular of all the BW babes. Didn't help that she was (and is) a screeching leftist who regularly posted anti-Bush stuff on her website all the time.

"The Invaders." Best TZ episode of all time, bar none.

It has been a while since I heard the full transcript but basically Cosell discussed the situation off-air with his producers and behind-the-scenes staff: whether it should be broadcast live at that time of the game -- I think New England was about to attempt a game-winning field goal (which failed). It was chilling to hear it. I don't recall anything disparaging.

Cronkite was commenting on McCarthy during the special (not 50 years ago). He gave this spiel about McCarthy as the "villain" of the story.

It's like the Verona project never happened, and was never publicised...

That's good to hear. I had heard that Cosell was very broken up about the news because he had interviewed John a couple of times previously and liked him very much.
