"Count votes that count" FOR GREGOIRE

Count votes that count

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

The Washington Supreme Court Tuesday reached a unanimous and sound decision in rejecting the Democratic Party's request to effectively alter state election law by judicial fiat.

It is, of course, impossible to know which gubernatorial candidate would have profited had the court ordered all 39 counties to include in the hand recount ballots that had been previously rejected. Democrats presumably believed the change would have benefited their candidate, Christine Gregoire. But it doesn't matter who would have benefited (this newspaper endorsed Democrat Gregoire). The justices' reading of the law seems unquestionable in this case.

A "recount" is just that.

The ruling did not question, however, county elections boards' option of "recanvassing," or re-examining and counting ballots that may have been erroneously rejected before they could be counted.

King County's canvassing board is expected to do just that with 561 ballots presented to it today.

According to King County Elections Director Dean Logan, his office failed to follow through on the verification of absentee ballots with signatures that initially were rejected because the voters' signatures on them didn't match signatures on file in the electronic database. The 561 ballots need to be re-examined to determine if they are legitimate and, if so, counted.

Nonetheless, allegations of fraud and "stolen" elections are unjustified. The outcome will not be settled by taking "to the streets" as one partisan suggested. This is not Ukraine. The high court has done well by adhering to the law of the land. King County is doing well to tally the ballots of those who obviously may have been disenfranchised. The process is working, albeit slowly.

Either people voted using the proper tools or they didn't. What's with these "do-over" votes?

The third paragraph of this editorial is flat-out false. This is not a "recanvassing" of the votes. Furthermore, to apply a different standard in King County alone is a flat-out violation of "equal protection of the laws" as found in Bush v. Gore by the US Supreme Court in 2000.

The Democrats are trying, as in Florida, New Jersey, Hawaii, and elsewhere, to steal this election by deliberate violation of the laws, state or federal. It's as simple as that.

The ruling did not question, however, county elections boards' option of "recanvassing," or re-examining and counting ballots that may have been erroneously rejected before they could be counted.

This was addressed during oral arguments; I was there. The reason the ruling does not address the option of "recanvassing' is because there is no provision in the statutes for recanvassing. The statutes make mention of canvassing and recounting. The purpose for not allowing recanvassing is to prevent vote fraud.

None the less, i will be going to the Rossi HQ on Thursday with some very useful information regarding criminal conduct by Gregoire.

You said -- "Either people voted using the proper tools or they didn't. What's with these "do-over" votes?"

It appears that there is a legitimate problem there. I only say that because of a TV news program (the NW Channel on cable) which highlighted an "official" (of the government or the election process) -- who -- when examining those ballots found his own ballot among those ballots.

Well now..., can you imagine!!?? To say the least, he was pissed!

It appears that the election board (or whatever it's called) did not have the original signatures "on file" (or rather "at hand") to examine those ballots, so they rejected them. HOWEVER they did have the signatures from when those people (or at least "some" of them) were originally signed up. This one guy who was featured on the news had a very legitimate complaint I would say.

It would just be very unfortunate if that big mistake by the election board would cause the Republican candidate to lose -- in the process of correcting their mistake (and it does definitely appear to be their mistake).

What about that "kind" of vote, that I outlined (above) from the NW Cable Channel, regarding the election board, which rejected valid votes? Now, that's one thing I've got a question about.

It's one thing to reject bogus, bad and invalid votes (and I agree with that), but it's quite another to be rejecting perfectly valid ones. I say that, because then I might find (one day) my vote on the "rejecting end" of that process.

I would like to know how many people predicted King county would "discover" additional uncounted ballots in the recount? I know I did.

And if I hear the "I'm on your side.. but prove election fraud" troll barking again, I will puke. No conscience or principles makes a good Democrat..

Darn.. just puked on my loafers.

I think most honest people can accept legitimate results. Can anyone say that Gregoire will win this count (and don't kid yourself..she will win) and be a legitimate Governor?

As Washington State law plainly says, and its SC read its law that way in today's decision, "canvassing" means determining which votes are legally cast, so they can be counted. "Recount" means verifying the counts and math on the legal votes. It does NOT mean going over the invalid votes for a third time.

They "found" 22 more King county ballots in the bottom of a ballot box. Oh no! More disenfranchised liberals. Who is smoking what in King county? Either that or the fix is in. DISGUSTING!
