Cheating suspected in vote
Washington Times ^ | 12/16/04 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Republicans in Washington state suspect Democrats, with 500 patronage jobs at risk, are cheating in what is now the unprecedented third counting of the 2,883,341 ballots cast in the Nov. 2 election for governor.
In the current hand recount, Democrats keep discovering untabulated ballots. The state's Republicans, who thought they had elected Dino Rossi as the first Republican governor in 20 years, are furious.
State Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance says he can't decide whether Democrat officials in heavily Democratic King County — where uncounted or improperly discarded ballots keep popping up — are "colossally incompetent or completely corrupt."

"This is the third time King County has added numbers to the pool," says Rossi spokeswoman Mary Lane. She said that two days before officials were to certify the election, King County announced it had 10,000 more ballots than it had originally thought.

During a machine recount, King County announced it had found more than 1,000 additional ballots. Then, on the morning that the state Supreme Court was due to hear oral arguments in a lawsuit over the disputed election, King County said it discovered 561 ballots that had been improperly thrown out. Officials in the Democrat-dominated county later turned up two more batches of ballots in the bottom of boxes.
"It's a troubling pattern," Miss Lane says.

The King County Canvassing Board yesterday voted 2-1 to begin the process of verifying the ballots.

Republicans in the state say they see a parallel to the 2000 Florida presidential election recount, when most of the disputed ballots were in heavily Democratic counties overseen by Democratic election officials.

"colossally incompetent or completely corrupt."

Please. It's most definitely the latter.

Just seems to me the 571 are being counted because they claim it was an administrative error that kept them out of previous counts. If the late returned absentee ballots are also the result of an administrative error, why aren't they also being counted.

History has repeatedly shown that socialists/Marxists/leftists are BOTH "colossally incompetent AND completely corrupt" .... so why is Chris Vance confused???? Such is the very nature of socialism/communism. Consider the "father" of communism ... Karl Marx .... he completely blew TWO major inheritances .... and then demanded that someone else take care of him .... and this is the person that the left gets their ideas on economics from?????? What's wrong with THIS picture????

Unfortunately, in a crisis, Republican leaders tend to act like the middle class businessmen and professionals they so often are: careful, sober-minded, like insurance lawyers trying to defeat a claim or accountants justifying a disputed deduction. Good at their work, but with no appetite for a street fight.

On the other side, are union activists and thugs, plaintiff's lawyers, civil rights agitators, and inveterate leftists. Aggressive, even dishonest tactics come naturally to them, and they are shameless about it. They all too often roll Republicans as if they were prep students in crested blazers and penny loafers who had wandered into a bad neighborhood.

The lawsuit that the Democrats lots to a UNANIMOUS state Supreme Court decision was to force all of the counties to reconsider every ballot. State law has a provision that allows local canvassing boards to "correct mistakes" and it is under that clause that the Dems are now seeking to count those magical "found" ballots.

It is my understanding that any county can now mine for votes the same way King County is, but it is up to each local canvassing board to decide to do it and then decide whether or not to accept any "found" votes. They have up until the date that this rerecount is certified to "amend" their totals. There are individual certifications done by each county and something like 33 of the 39 are already done. I don't know if they are allowed to go back after their county canvassing board certifies their total to now mine for more votes. It is very complicated.

Then there's the added complication that Gregoire and the Dems are paying for this recount. Can they refuse to pay Rossi counties for the extra labor it will take to go back and find votes like King County is?

I believe lurking in all of this we have the fact that King County had a judge that allowed the county elections officials to give the list of rejected ballots to the Dems who then went door-to-door asking only Gregoire voters to "correct" their ballot problems. A judge in another WA county that went heavily for Rossi did not allow this to happen.

Classic case waiting in the wings for Bush/Gore USSC ruling........

Wouldn't Republicans be more likely to "misplace" ballots cast for Democrat candidates?

No, we wouldn't. It's a matter of fairness and ethics and playing by the rules. In those areas, the Dems are bankrupt!

There are 2 problems with your theory:

1. Gregoire will have both houses of the legislature. While she may not have public confedence, she'll be able to ram all kinds of things down our throat.

2. Can't-vote-well may have won by a tiny margin but now she's a good looking, incumbent Democrat woman in a Democrat state, not a weird looking, screeching bitch only psudo- incumbent. And Dino won the Governors office by talking about state issues and downplaying his conservative views on abortion and such. It would be much harder for him to win federal office.

We really need Dino to win this time around.

Exactly right. We are wimps and we need to get tough.

The way to start is to get very, very angry -- so angry that we think more about what WE can do to THEM than
we whine about THEY are doing to US.

We're all asking the same question. Of course, I don't know how many military ballots were actually returned (late or otherwise). If I had been told that my ballot could not get back in time to be counted, I probably wouldn't even bother filling it out. Would you?
