He denounces American imperialism on Al-Jazeera Television. A former Zionist, he refers to jihadist suicide bombers as martyrs. He praised Mideast scholars for ignoring the issue of terrorism, and he regularly repeats the most twisted and paranoid claims of Islamist regimes as though they were historical fact. He is Stanford Middle East history professor Joel Beinin, and his influence extends far beyond his classroom.
If one individual can showcase all the flaws of Middle East Studies in academia, Joel Beinin is that man. A former president of the Middle East Studies Association, Beinin teaches Middle East history at Stanford University. This professors politics color his work; the result is mediocre scholarship, baseless conspiracy theories, and partisan classroom instruction.
Beinins biography reads like a parody of an American radical. Born in 1948 to Labor Zionist parents,[1] he experienced an ideological transformation at age 22 while living on Kibbutz Lahav. Beinin joined the New Left at Hebrew University, then migrated to Trotskyite anti-Zionism and finally to Maoism.[2] A Marxist ever since,[3] he received his BA, MA, and Ph.D. from Princeton, Harvard, and the University of Michigan respectively. He has received Ford Foundation funds, and has taught in France, Britain, Israel and Egypt.[4]

Do people actually believe the crap this guy spouts? Sad that students who don't know any better are warped by this guys sick mind.
I was reading in the NYT today that the US is no longer attracting the best foreign students. Professors like this are one of the reasons. They are totally clueless, even deranged.
I'm not so sure I'd call this guy clueless, he's very adept at twisting facts in order to suit his own perverse theories.
People like this idiot are teaching our young. No wonder we are in a world of trouble.
I think the reason the best students are no longer coming here is that we've cracked down on granting visas, which has scared many foreign students off. Also, many of the best students came from South Asia, which now has an information tech industry of its own that sponges up these students (so they don't have to travel to learn/work).
On the other hand, how many times have we heard that people who commit terrorist acts have spent time as students in the US, so perhaps its not such a bad thing in the short term. In the longer term I think we're going to want those engineers and scientists back.
Gee, I wonder why our kids march out of college like Chairman Mao's little Red Guards?
It's just as bad if not worse up here, Canadian universities are assembly lines for producing little anti-Semite lefties - you should hear some of the crap that I've heard them spout and they spout it as if it were gospel. Given that we have such a high number of University attending students, no wonder there is such a rise in anti-American/pro-jihadi sentiment in Canada.
Yep, this college brainwashing has even struck in our family.
"Gee, I wonder why our kids march out of college like Chairman Mao's little Red Guards?"
Too many of these Jew/America hating JINOs are locked in as professors across America. They hate America, Israel, real Americans and Jews, and they work 24/7 to weaken our country and allies.
