Another reason to terminate public funding of the school system. They whole operation cannot distinguish good from bad or right from wrong.

Hmmm. Math teacher is expected to teach math. That is evil?

As a Christian I respect him for his convictions, but there's a way to let people know about Christ without bludgeoning them. I believe it was St Francis who said "Preach Christ, and if you must, use words.".....

I bet he would do great in some missionary work - I'd be willing to help support him in that endeavor. There are far too many of us who claim to love God and to proclaim our salvation for Eternity, but who also fail to take advantage of the ample opportunities to carry His Word.

Alas, I also fall into this category, but I renew my efforts to do better daily.

It just illustrates why the whole concept of public schools can't work in a country that practices strict separation of church and state. The church/state debate has become more than just a sideshow in the public schools. It's tearing them apart.

He admitted that on some days he spent up to 10 minutes per class discussing religion,...

As long as Moslems, Hindus, Scientologists, atheists, etc, ..are allowed the same priviledge.

He will get a better job, making more money.

It is the students that will be the losers.

Which is exactly what the school board and nea want.

We can't have the pesants educated to the level of us nobles.

Besides if they were educated instead of being indoctineated, they would not believe the communistic bullshit we feed them.

Can't have that.

My children all graduated before this baloney had gotten started.

If I had a child today, I gurantee you that they would never set foot inside a government school as a student.

Cassie Young, 16, a student in one of Ziegler's pre-algebra classes, was among several students who left the hearing teary-eyed after the board announced its decision. Young said the decision was "one more way of kicking God out of school." "The law of man is wrong, and one day everyone will know that," she said.

Amen Cassie, Amen!

You know, even if he was teaching in a parochial school, I would have a problem with a math teacher spending 10 minutes a day preaching.

There was a time where his actions would have been completely acceptable if no encouraged in public schools. I think it's sad that time has passed and liberals are trying to make us a godless society.

This teacher is a brave young man. I admire his faith and conviction. I'm sure his talents will be put to use elsewhere, but I'm glad he made them fire him rather than let himself be silenced.

I'm also glad he didn't get lawyers involved and waste his money and the school's.

He's leaving with the respect of many of the students and school board. It sounds like God has big plans for this young man.

Exactly. I wouldn't find it too useful for a preacher to spend 10 minutes discussing the quadratic formula in a church service either.

From this article, it is unclear how effective he was at teaching math. I don't remember my math teachers ever taking the whole class time talking about math. On the contrary, we spent a whole lot of time playing. (in Calculus and Trig and Algebra 2 and and and)

I'm not real keen on the praying part. When did Jesus pray? I believe we should follow His example in that regard.

These children come to school with so many problems. He is right we need to address the needs before we can really teach. They are worried about how to make it through the day. Do they care about math?

Obviously not.

Thats a decision the parents will have to make and one they can discuss at the next schoolboard meeting.
If parents want their kids to do well they'll seek out teachers like this one.

Hey, wait up everybody.

Is this a case where a teacher initiated a religious lecture independently or is this a case where he was asked by a student about his religious beliefs?

The former I agree is out of line, but where does it say in the First Amendment that a teacher cannot honestly answer questions about his faith?

The First Amendment PROTECTS the right of government employees to religious expression, so how has this been twisted around to mean that hey cannot express their religion instead?

The First Amendment says : "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

Further history shows:

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment01/06.html

Madison's version of the speech and press clauses, introduced in the House of Representatives on June 8, 1789, provided: ''The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their right to speak, to write, or to publish their sentiments; and the freedom of the press, as one of the great bulwarks of liberty, shall be inviolable.''1 The special committee rewrote the language to some extent, adding other provisions from Madison's draft, to make it read: ''The freedom of speech and of the press, and the right of the people peaceably to assemble and consult for their common good, and to apply to the Government for redress of grievances, shall not be infringed.''2 In this form it went to the Senate, which rewrote it to read: ''That Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and consult for their common good, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.''3 Subsequently, the religion clauses and these clauses were combined by the Senate.4 The final language was agreed upon in conference.

This teacher is having his freedom of speech curtailed if he is simply responding to student query concerning it.

Why have Christians adopted the same fraudulent perspective of their enemies?

He didn't win any lost kids by disobeying his authorities in front of them.

Naw...in reality we cannot say. It's quite possible that he did/will have a profound effect on some "lost kid".

And besides, if he did/does we will probably never know........

FWIW-

If you love your kids and grandkids get them out of the gulags we call public schools. They are only being indoctrinated to be good little socialists - that has become the only reason for them. Anything in the way of education the kids pick up is accidental and most likely incorrect as most of the textbook have grevious errors in them.

He's teaching in the wrong school.

There is no better school for this man to have taught in. The lesson he taught those kids is immeasurable. The hypocrisy of the adults is made and clear for the children.
