The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

re: Multiple additional small aircraft crashes. Any Freepers/Lurkers here from the NTSB? Surely some person or department there is charged with charting something like the number of crashes per million flying hours. I would love to see if these occurences are statistically on the increase, or if that is just our perception.

HG....so true. As I find some of these things like small aircraft crashes...gas leak explosions, etc.; I often wonder if they seem to be more prevalent because I am "looking" for different incidents. Could this be just the normal number of occurances on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis.

According to the FN web site, the weapon is not available to the public. It is for Government and Law Enforcement purchase only.

Also, for everyone that contributes and helps put these threads out, thank you.

I thought that comment #5 on this thread, which details the Intelligence Report that FNC received about suspicious activity along the inaugural route was pretty interesting.

That was very interesting. I tried googling various combinations of the name "Mohamad Chafiq Dekkak", and variously either came up empty, or with numerous sites that mostly appeared to be in French. Perhaps some of our French-literate FRiends could shed some light?

Crazy schedules with my girls this weekend, so I have time for one quick post.

Regarding the Ford City Mall explosion.....

Hubby told me the story last night of the tunnel systems beneath the Ford City Mall.

The mall was built on the grounds of an old factory that he thinks was called the Tucker factory.

During WWII, they manufactured planes *UNDERGROUND* at this site and would TUNNEL the planes from that location all the way out to Midway Airport.

Hubster says there are books available on all the tunnel systems throughout Chicago!!

Large ME population in that area as well.

I remain suspicious....until proven otherwise.
*******

Stay safe everyone and have a great weekend.

Plant Fire Forces 5,000 People to Flee
Saturday, January 15, 2005

ANDERSON, Ind. — A magnesium fire at a recycling plant that forced thousands to evacuate their homes may take days to burn itself out since firefighters have given up trying to extinguish the blaze themselves.

The fire erupted at theAdvanced Magnesium Alloys Corp. (search) plant around 5 p.m. Friday, but explosions forced firefighters out less than three hours later, said police Detective Terry Sollars.

No injuries were reported.

At midmorning Saturday, several dozen fire and police officers remained posted around the plant, keeping watch on the fire that had grown considerably smaller overnight but continued to smolder, Sollars said.

Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (search) were at the scene.

"They're taking tests of the air quality before they let anyone back in. We're not sure when that might happen," Sollars said.

Magnesium is a silvery-white, highly flammable metal. Burning magnesium produces irritating or toxic fumes and is typically extinguished using dry sand since water can cause a flare-up or explosion.

"God doesn't have enough sand in Anderson," Fire Chief J.R. Rosencrans said. By 9 p.m. Friday, he had decided to let the fire burn itself out.

Authorities evacuated 3,000 to 5,000 people from an area about one mile wide and two miles long that fell in the path of the smoke, which was carried by wind at about 5 mph, Sollars said.

"They're afraid the plant is gonna blow," said Doug Parks, who lives across the street and upwind from the plant. "We heard a couple of explosions that shook the house."

Sollars said the fire began in an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 pounds of magnesium in one section of the plant. "We're not sure yet on what the start of it was," he said.

Twelve to 18 of the plant's approximately 70 workers were inside at the time, he said.

FBI Warns of Suspicious Inaugural Activity
Saturday, January 15, 2005

WASHINGTON — The federal government is receiving reports of "suspicious activity" around buildings where presidential inaugural (search) events and a parade are scheduled to occur Jan. 20 in Washington, FOX News learned Friday.

FOX News obtained an intelligence bulletin sent this week to law enforcement by the FBI's Washington field office, which is coordinating the security for next week's inaugural along with the U.S. Secret Service (search).

An FBI official confirmed the authenticity of the bulletin and said, "there is no credible threat information but we are looking at everything and anything out of an abundance of caution."

More than 6,000 law enforcement personnel will be on duty Jan. 20, the day President Bush (search) is sworn in for a second term.

Reports of suspicious activity noted by the FBI include people taking pictures and writing descriptive notes while being near the buildings. But there is no indication that any of these activities are linked to terrorist activity. Plus, many of the buildings and streets in question consistently receive numerous suspicious activity reports due to their high visibility in the Washington area.

Some of the threat reporting is coming to U.S. officials from overseas, according to the FBI bulletin.

"Strange story:

Reports: Four family members slain in Jersey City"

Reminds me of a story I was just telling my son the other day about a Pinehill, NJ family that was murders many, many years ago...in the 80's I believe...that turned out to be a bad hit. I can't remember if it was supposed to be a mob hit or some other organized hit but it turned out that the hitmen had the wrong address and were, in fact, supposed to hit a family that had lived around the corner. There was only one surviver, a little girl who was adopted by the family and had hid under her bed. Several years later, I came across the case again while working in a lawfirm involving the surviving girl.

"As Teri pointed out, the larger issue may be that of missing/stolen license plates. A missing plate attracts attention (it got mine), but a stolen truck could be tagged with a plate stolen from another truck, which could make it look more "ordinary", and would therefore be far less noticeable.
