I agree with you. No doubt the news media and the Democrats would have made political hay of it, but I believe the American people would understand that it might be necessary to shoot down a plane rather than have terrorists crash it into a city, killing all the passengers anyway and taking thousands more lives as well.
At the time, I thought that if it had to be shot down, they should have just said so, instead of covering it up like a clinton. Now I'm not so sure, after having watched for the past four years the way the Democrats and the gutterspawn in the media use such tragedies for political purposes.

Much ado about NOTHING!
I agree with the points you made. With regard to the last one, it's clear that one party has this nation's best interests at heart, most of the time. The other is just flat out anti-American with regard to just about every issue in it's zeal to regain power. And I might add, anti-Christian as well to the list.
I can't remember where I read it, but one of the accounts I read of this incident stated that Flight 93 had been ordered shot down, but there were no armed military aircraft in the vicinity that could intercept the flight. A training flight of unarmed USAF fighters were racing to intercept Flight 93 when it was brought down by the passengers. If the passengers had not brought the flight down, these USAF pilots were prepared to crash their planes into Flight 93 in order to prevent the highjackers from carrying out their attack on what was believed to be either the White House or the Capitol Building.
Is your day that unexciting?
Did he mention the lizard people?
The transcript is edited.
We ALL heard it here at work, he clearly said
"...SHOT the aircraft down over Pennsylvania..."
You can skip the " tinfoil alert" business.
If he misspoke fine, but he still said it.

Oh my God! did Rumsfeld say that? This is big! Does anyone else know this? We have to get this out! This will certainly fuel the momentum to get him removed from office.
The Demonrats stole the election for Govenor in WA and we get excited by a slip of the tongue by the most successful and brilliant Secretary of Defense?
I can hear Rumsfeld and every other bureaucrat in DC saying:
"Don't say shot, don't say shot, don't ever say the word shot!"
Please people, stop it! The airplane was NOT shot down. Do you understand how many people would have to be silenced in order to hide the facts? Consider this point; the F16s return to base in Hampton without some of their munitions. Don't you think somebody would ask what you shot at? Could you keep everyone involved with the aircraft silent? Bull!
Have you read or seen a single report from any of the air traffic controllers at Cleveland or New York Centers who would have vectored the fighters to the location of the United flight? No, because their were no military airplanes near UAL93!
Sometimes things are just as they are reported.

In that context, it's pretty clear that the "people" Rummy was talking about were terrorists. Not our own military, even if we make the assumption that Flight 93 was intercepted and shot down by the US.
If he meant "shot down" by terrorists, that would mean that on 9/11 Osama's minions had an air-to-air capable a/c flying that day (not bloody likely), or engaged Flt. 93 with a surface to air missile (why even bother to hijack the plane in that case?).
My vote is on "misspoke".
FoxNews was showing feeds of Rummy's speeches as early as 5;00 a.m. CST. Rummy gave about 4 or 5 brief 'thank you troops' speeches. Each one was basically the same.
I can accept that he misspoke, this being the last in a near-half-dozen similar speeches he gave today.
Those speeches were more like 'thank you troops talks', rather than formal prepared speeches, too.
Yes. Thank God.
Nope. If he had, I would have mentioned it...
