A "Flight 800"ish slip of the tongue?
To: null and void

He may have said "brought down"...

What was the context though?
He may just mean "the people who destroyed the flight in Pennsylvania" and it's a slip of the tongue.

If the flight over Pennsylvania was shot down, it was done for national security concerns. While Flight 800 might have been shot down for the same reason, that hasn't begun to be established. There is question whether it was shot down at all. I personally think there's a 90% likelihood it was. But we don't know who did it, ours or theirs.

I would agree with those who think this was a slip of the tongue, but I would like to hear the audio. It would be an interesting listen.

That's never stopped a real FReeper from commenting!
Could have said "brought" I suppose To me it sounded distinctly like "shot".
DoughtyOne, I agree with your assesment.

You know good and well what he meant. The man has got to be exhausted. He's been going since yesterday and has a punishing schedule trying to see all the troops he can. He's gone into the most dangerous parts of Iraq to thank the troops for Christmas.
Your comment is unworthy.

If that plane had been shot down like so many conspiracy theorists still claim no matter what the evidence shows, parts of that plane would have been scattered all over the countryside instead of the very small area where it was found.

Context was he was telling the troops about the ongoing terrorist threat, enumerating a few incidents. Something like: "the people who hijacked the planes on 9/11 and flew them into the WTC and Pentagon, the people who shot down the flight in PA"
Dunno, but it sure caught MY ear!
