...Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has spent much of his 26 years in power warning of the dangers that global warming, erosion and shifting weather patterns pose to low-lying island nations like his own.
...Gayoom has appealed for international assistance.
"We still face the threat of sea level rise," he told Reuters in a recent interview. "There is encroachment of the sea on many islands, there is erosion of our beaches."

He must not have heard about the earthquake off Sumatra. News must travel slowly in his world...

Global warming causes earthquakes at the bottom of the Indian Ocean...
One good thing.
At least all pretense of truth has been abandoned by the crisis-pimps.

How long did you think it would take? This story was posted at "17:49 GMT".Of course to get there you had to violate two posting rules.
ONE: You did not post the true headline (Tsunami-hit Maldives declares emergency)
TWO: Your posted headline is NOT supported in the article.
Why did you intentionally mislead?

So the Earth got a suntan that started to get crackly, and this thus caused the 9.0 earthquake?
Yeah.
Maybe it also caused all the hurricanes and typhoons and those other Japan tsunamis this fall...mmmmhmmm...

At least all pretense of truth has been abandoned by the crisis-pimps. dr_pat is the crisis-pimp in this case for posting a misleading and inaccurate headline.

That silly old global warming is very busy. It is also causing the exceptional cold North America weather of the last few weeks.

Gayoom demonstrates the destructive characteristic, hubris.
Nature has more power, shock and awe than we can even hope to imagine. Occasionally throughout history, Nature has shown that. And the world recovers. For mankind to think they have any significant power over global cooling or global warming is farcical. Mankind is just a speck on the planet.

Scenario: You are leader of a small insignificant country. Your budget is strapped for dollars.
You have two choices:
1. Raise taxes on your countrymen and face being ousted from power.
2. Make liberals feel guilty so they will give you money, invite you to their parties to hear you voice your woes, give you money, invite you to their colleges to voice your woes, give you money, praise you to their friends and neighbors, give you money.
No Brainer!
