West in no position to comment on human rights after Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib: Rafsanjani

TEHRAN (MNA) –- Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here on Tuesday that Westerners, and particularly the United States, are in no position to comment on the issue of human rights in light of the “Guantanamo hell” and the scandals resulting from the U.S. administration of Iraqi prisons.

Disclosures of abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq created worldwide uproar and many international organizations have expressed serious concern over the abuse of prisoners in the U.S. military prison in Guantanomo Bay, Cuba.

In a meeting with the new Swiss ambassador to Tehran, Philippe Welti, Rafsanjani stated that the aggressive measures against the Palestinian and Iraqi nations, the efforts to deprive young women of an education due to their religious beliefs, and the unilateral approach toward the Al Manar television network are some of the obvious examples of violations of human rights by the West.

He described Iran-Swiss relations as positive, saying that this is due to Switzerland’s refusal to be influenced by international and regional affairs.

He also called for the expansion of cooperation and the development of bilateral ties between Iran and Switzerland.

For his part, Welti expressed his country’s views on significant regional and international affairs, saying there is a surprisingly great difference between the present reality in Iran and the image of the country presented by the Western media.

He stated that the Swiss government respects and defends the rights of the Palestinian people, adding that the acts of torture carried out in Guantanamo and the U.S. prisons in Iraq were a violation of international law, human rights, and global values.

The ambassador also called for the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Switzerland in the political, economic, and commercial spheres.

Gee, I'm surprised he didn't take the time to condemn the barbaric beheading of innocent civilans by his brethren.

Always good for a laugh. Or at least a couple of grunts. Helps one belch and clear the gas.

They must have figured out its time to get out of dodge. They've probably already stashed all their money in the swiss bank accounts and have got their passports in hand.

I suppose we should adapt the only 'acceptable' means of treating prisoners. We should slice off their heads on video.

Pfft. All terrorists should be so lucky to be treated as they were at Abu Grabib. And, to my knowledge, the cuplable parties were tried and in process of convictions for that behavior. Investigations well under way before the sensitized public jumped on it months later to express 'proper' outrage. Perhaps Rafsanjani would like to verify similiar conscience in prosecuting those in Iran responsible for even more grevious offenses than forcing terrorists to sport women's underwear?

We've every right to speak to human rights. We promote human rights in our own society and spill the blood of our people to promote it elsewhere. We sacrifice our money to rebuild their societies. We even prosecute members without need of the pressure of the world community breathing down to initiate investigations. Iran can boost no such admirable record of human rights and personal accountability. If they believe this charge will deflect from speaking the truth of their country's oppressive government they will be sadly mistaken.

In the movie Voices In Iraq some of the Iraqi's joked about lot's of them wanting to get into Abu Gharaib to have a "woman soldier play with their privates etc". They said those prisoners were Bathist's who deserved a lot more than they endured in there. They are not as concerned as the MSM is the "abuses" and realize that the US soldiers have been put on trial and justice has seen to be done. A new concept for Iraq.

Methinks its time for Rafsanjani's dental checkup, courtesy of the US Army (as Sadaam received after being bumped from his spider hole).

I find it amazing how the regressed third world has taken over the propaganda machine that once was churning the crapola in the good ol' Soviet Union. Almost word for word tripe.

I'd like to ask this idiot if he would rather have a pair of panties put over his head or have his head cut off. Big difference, I would say.
