An appropriately red-faced senior United Nations official beat a hasty retreat yesterday after accusing America and other well-off Western nations of a stingy response to the devastation in south Asia.Jan Egeland, a Norwegian who holds the lofty title of Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, now claims he was misinterpreted when he charged Monday that there are several donors who are less generous than before in a growing world economy.

Misinterpreted?
Baloney.
Egeland knew exactly what he was saying and he meant every word of it.
Of course, it was about as truthful as the rest of the slime that oozes from that cesspool on First Avenue.

If all of those self-important diplomats simply anted up a small percentage of the money they raked in under the Oil for Food program which was designed as humanitarian aid for starving Iraqis but instead became an under-the-table cash cow for top U.N. officials Egeland might find himself with some serious cash.

In short, Americas initial response to this human tragedy is nothing for which this country need apologize or have to answer for to small-minded, and bigmouthed, United Nations diplomats.

I have had with this "criminal" United Nations group. I am sitting down and writing my congressman and two Senators telling them I want them to take every action possible to get the USA out of the United Nations.
I wonder if they'll be able to find a way to skim money off this tragedy relief aid? - You know there'll be "war lords" somewhere funneling relief money soon to their causes.
Actually, this article doesn't do justice to what the guy actually said. I heard Charley Gibson, substituting for O'Reilly, say last night that the guy linked out stinginess to our low tax rate. While I haven't been able to find an exact quote, I did find this:
"Despite his claim of being "misinterpreted," a review of the transcript of Mr. Egeland's initial press briefing confirms that he asked reporters at the United Nations why Western countries are "so stingy" and specifically cited the United States as an example of a country whose citizens want to pay more taxes so that foreign aid can be increased."
U.N. official backtracks after calling U.S. 'stingy'

Yes, the American people do so fervently desire to pay higher taxes to support foreign aid. Some political party should pick up on this and make it part of their party platform. Perhaps this is the winning issue that democrats are looking for.
As an aside, why is it that the UN ignores taking action to prevent man-caused genocide, but jumps all over natural disasters?
