#12 -- omg... talk about being hit in the gut. May God have mercy on all of these poor souls.
Terrible. Words fail me.
I also thought that.
Please, God.

Give the wee one a hug, then another, then another...
They are so precious.
Mine are 6 and 10 yrs old.
I can't believe how fast they are growing up.
Too fast.

Although it has been a few years, I imagine the loss is always felt.
God Bless
yea, these pictures are terrible, but far worse are all the coastal cities, towns and villiages where nothing is left where the wave was 25 or 30 feet tall and wiped entire cities from the face of the earth. There will be no photos of them, everything is gone and every one is dead.
Good observation. They are grinning. Well at least according to the largest newspaper in Norway. The picture is not related to the latest Tsunami, but was taken a few years back in China where tourists are watching a tidal wave that occurs regularly and thus has become a tourist attraction. I have no idea how, but apparently none of the people in that picture even died. But, apparently the wave was a little bigger than expected so a few people got injured.
I think the location is the Qiantang river somewhere southwest of Shanghai.
It's not from this disaster. Rather from some "tourist attraction" event that occurs in China. None of these people apparently died. In Norway, our equivalent to the New York Times, got in trouble for publishing these pictures claiming to have some dramatic new footage. But, even they seem to suspect there was something wrong with them since they put small black bixes in front of the most obviosusly smiling faces.
YOu can only guess a long telephoto lens...from high atop of something...many scuba divers in this region...many have some pretty elaborate camera systems...and "underwater" systems...sveral Nikonos lens for example can shoot above and below water...the focal points are relative to the aperature...but other lens can not...
Tidal Bore at the Qiantang River
The extraordinary surging tide of the Qiantang River is a world-renowned natural wonder caused by the gravitation of the celestial body, the centrifugal force produced by the rotation of the earth and by the peculiar bottleneck shape of the Hangzhou Bay.
Huge tides occur between the first and fifth day and between the Isth and Igth day of each lunar month.
When the bores surge into the river with the momentum of an avalanche, it creates a magnificent and breath-taking scene. At one time, the difference of the tidal wave reached g meters high.
On August I8 of the lunar calendar year, the traditional tide-watching day, people throng to the Qiantang River to watch the wonder.
Watching the bores at the Qiantang River has a history of over 2,000 years. At Yanguan Town, the watching site, people can also get a glimpse into the traditional Chinese culture by visiting many historical structures such as the Sea-Pacifying Pagoda, the Temple of the Ocean God, Zhongshan Pavilion and the residences of Chen Yuanlong, a famous Qing Dynasty prime minister and Wang Guowei, a noted scholar of the Qing Dynasty.

Heart breaking..........
The vehicles may have provided the most very temporary "sheild" until the water lifted them and turned them into battering rams...
But many people were asleep in bed, many were in cafes with no view of the water...how can you run if you don't know the water has receded? I guess that is what is most terrifying...just asleep and at peace and all hell breaks loose...or eating at a cafe and people suddenly running by...by the time you put 2 and 2 together it was probably too late...scary scary scary...
This is the thread I was talking about.
Actually, correction for you. The 12 yo daughter is alive. Fox News explained that this morning, and showed a video of the 12yo daughter playing with her infant sister.
Good news on all fronts for this family, in regards to the kiddos.
No No, All of the people in the picture survived. This due to quick acting by-standers who immediately helped two people with mouth2mouth but all others did not need help, but rather minor medical attention to cuts and bruises. The cameraman on the van/truck survived as well.
That baby is the one who survived floating on the mattress over five feet of water. I saw the footage on CNN. The baby miraculously survived on a floating mattress.
The pic I mentioned is about the 15th or 16th from top on this thread.
Is it me or do a lot of those people look like they are smiling or laughing???
