I think that the the baby in the picture is okay, at least I hope so. Prayers for all of the victims and their families. This is so horrible.

This is the next picture in the sequence.

It appears that these people were standing at some sort of sea-wall watching the big waves when one slammed into and crested the wall.

From this picture it appears many may have lived. I pray this is so.

That's because liberals are incredibly patronizing. Anyone that is not a member of their intellectual clique must be stupid or ignorant, and worthy of only disdain or condescension.

The woman kissing her dead little baby made me cry. They don't have much time. They must bury or burn the dead before cholera infections occur among the living.

Country-by-Country Toll

The death toll in the Asian tsunami disaster is now expected to exceed 100,000.

An under-sea earthquake, measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale, off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, on Sunday, unleased powerful waves which killed people in several countries.

Here is a summary of the nations affected:

THAILAND

The official death toll stands at more than 1,800 but a police officer said more than 1,500 bodies had been found in one district alone and the toll is expected to soar.

So far 473 foreigners of 36 nationalities are confirmed as dead, Thai authorities say, including 43 Britons. The Foreign Office has confirmed 20 British deaths.

Thousands of people are missing, including hundreds of foreign tourists in Thai resorts. Millions remain homeless.

Actor and film director Lord Attenborough’s 14-year-old granddaughter Lucy was among those killed.

Phuket was worst hit when the wall of water crashed on to the west coast of southern Thailand on Sunday.

Huge waves pounded Kamala beach and tore into the provinces of Trang, Songkhla, Phuket, Krabi, Ranong, Phang Nga, Satun and Surat Thani, which draw thousands of tourists every year.

INDONESIA

The official death toll stood at 45,268, but authorities said this did not include a full count from the west coast of the island of Sumatra, which was nearest the epicentre of the quake.

Military teams reaching the area for the first time reported scenes of total devastation.

News crews flew over town after town that was covered in mud and sea water.

A UN official said the death toll in Aceh province, in northern Sumatra, could reach 80,000.

There may have been 40,000 deaths in a single town, Meulaboh.

Trucks dumped more than 1,000 unidentified bodies into open graves on the island, where a million people have been left homeless.

SRI LANKA

The island nation put its toll at more than 23,000 and it is feared the figure may rise by another 2,000.

Four Britons are among the dead, the British consulate in Colombo has said.

Four planes arrived in the capital today bringing a surgical hospital from Finland, a water purification plant from Germany, doctors and medicine from Japan and aid workers from Britain.

The island’s east coast, which includes tourist hotspots, was hit by waves as high as 18ft when the tsunami struck.

At least one million islanders had to flee their homes and head for high ground, some carrying dead and injured loved ones.

INDIA

The death toll rose to nearly 7,000. This does not include some 8,000 missing and feared dead on the remote Andaman and Nicobar islands, east of the mainland.

The worst affected state is Tamil Nadu, where more than 3,000 died.

Authorities have rushed drinking water and medicines and tried to improve sanitary conditions for thousands of survivors living in relief camps dotting the southern coast.

More than a thousand miles of south east India was battered by waves as high as 12ft as the tsunami tore ashore, destroying all in its path.

The Andaman and Nicobar region is made up of more than 500 islands, but about 30 are inhabited. All the inhabited islands were hit by Sunday’s disaster.

MALDIVES

Sixty nine people were killed in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

It is feared that dozens of the 1,190 small islands may have been totally consumed by the swollen sea.

Three Britons have been confirmed dead on the islands, which average just three feet in height.

Government officials estimate the cost of rebuilding will exceed their annual gross domestic product of £350 million.

SOMALIA

One hundred people have been reported dead as a result of waves which struck the northern coastline of the African nation.

Some 3,000 miles from the epicentre, Somalia was hit up to seven hours after the quake.

BURMA

The south east coast was hit and 90 people have been reported dead. The country is notoriously resistant to releasing information following such disasters.

MALAYSIA

Sixty-five people have been reported dead as a result of waves striking villages scattered along the north west coasts.

Around 700 homes were destroyed, mostly in coastal villages near Balik Pulau on Penang island to the north west and Kuala Muda in the mainland state of Kedah.

Many victims were swimming or riding on jet skis on the beaches of Penang, which were hit by 16ft waves.

BANGLADESH

Two people have reportedly died following the huge waves which slammed into the southern port of Chittagong and caused widespread flooding in at least 30 central, southern and western districts.

KENYA AND TANZANIA

Ten people have been confirmed dead in Tanzania and one in Kenya.

Exactly. The woman who hit our son's car with hers at over 80 mph and killed him (and his working buddy) said that he was smiling - right before she made his car 3 feet wide. BTW she and her daughter were not injured.

I am sorry for your loss.

Many thousands might have been saved, but almost like a Hollywood disaster movie plot, Thailand's officials decided they didn't want to upset the tourists.
