"Why would anyone with money want to get married?"
What does marriage have to do with it? Ever heard of palimony? Just ask Clint Eastwood.

"The word 'presented' implies that she saw it for the first time." There is nothing in the word "presented" that would allow a knowledgeable English-speaker to infer an element of surprise. The statement clearly refers to the agreement document and does not mention any discussion that may or may not have occurred prior to the presenting of the document. You have made a logically unsupported assumption.
Further, your "buy a clue" comment is an uncivil remark uncalled for in this discussion and ironic in that it is you that has made the error in logic.

The word 'presented' implies that she saw it for the first time.True, but it's well within normal 2004 journalistic margins of error for either imprecise use of language or intentional male-bashing agenda-speak. I wouldn't hang my hat on it.

Yep. Basically the same thing. And by far the norm.

I don't "like" doing housework.
I'm with you there. That's why I just pay a housekeeper to come in every week or two. She's fast, cheap and thorough. That way I can focus on the important things like shopping, re-decorating and the soaps. ;-)
"I hated having children."
I know you mean that you hated pregnancy and labor, not having children in your life. I'm sure you wanted that and I'll bet you were and are a terrific Mom!

You KNOW that isn't what I meant ... Words have legal meanings, that depending on the contest, have much different meanings. A good example is the word 'may'. It isn't nearly as simple as you might think. It may have an optional connotation in one instance and in another instance it could very well result in a mandatory action.

I'm talking about Washington state. When we were married we could not get a Christian minister to marry us without a license, they all gave the same legal reason. What if you're allready married in a civil ceremony (eloped) but want to have a big church wedding after for the family to all see? What me and mrs. schwab did, yeah I know I'm not a very good Catholic in that regard but we were already making arrangments when circumstances forced our hand to protect our relationship and freedom (a friend of ours--a THEN friend of ours I'll preface--got involved in some illegal activity and we didn't know when they first started but we had knowledge afterward that would have made us accesory to the act for not snitching--I'm NOT a Rat--and we didn't want to be forced to testify against one another or the friend--spousal immunity). Do you still have to have license for that? Already legally married ....
