And as soon as 90% of people use Firefox/Mozilla, 90% of the Trojans will be created to attack that browser. (Not dissing Firefox just pointing out what the hackers would do.)

Calling someone stupid because of that remark is over the top

But calling me gay because I buy a different computer is OK?

How does one go about obtaining viruses?

Connect to the 'net (browsing or receiving email) without protection. IE or Microsoft's LookOut OutLook will accomodate your virus needs.

Which, along with all O'Reilly books AFAIK, are legitmately sold at steep discounts at bookpool.com.

Just checked this site out. I used to be a programmer, but I can see I've really fallen behind the times.

My favorite title was Programming Jakarta Struts. I'm tempted to order it just to see what that's about.

You know, I use Linux CD distros to test various machines from time to time, in all different flavors, but never once have I had a Linux liveCD detect and properly enable onboard sound. Not once, no matter which distro it was based on - I always had to spend time farting around with ALSA and what-the-hell-have-you to get it working. Imagine my surprise when I booted up a FreeBSD liveCD and the sound was working right off the bat ;)

No one has called you gay in this thread.

You are over-sensitive, though...kinda like a liberal.

Just like Scientology, except it's more expensive.

Your exposure to the innards of $CIENTOLOGY(tm) is clearly superficial.

Getting to the upper levels costs really, really big bucks.

That, and PR reasons, explain why they have a special unit that targets celebrities.

Don't worry - no need to defend me. Mac users are easier to tweek then gay environmentalist teachers union members.

Whether or not you recognize it, you have fallen into parroting Microsoft's FUD and Excuse line.

The line goes something like this: Windows is attacked because it is popular. If it were not popular it would not be attacked.

The truth is entirely different: Windows is attacked because its so easy. Thieves do not bother with locked doors and bugler alarmed homes, they walk down the street to the first unlocked door.

It's the same with computer programs. The ones that are written correctly CAN NOT be compromised even if you can see every line of source code.

Don't fall for the Microsoft excuse that their success is what makes them a target. It's their sloppy code, which has no concept of security, no built in protection, and very little checking of what's going on. The fact that you as a user can go into your Windows directory and delete everything in there is just one example. If you can do it, so can the virus. A secure operating system would never allow this.

While firefox/mozilla are far from perfect they are also fundamentally different than MSIE. Millions of eyes can find and submit fixes for any bugs because the code is available. Anticipating your next remark, History has shown that open source code availability does NOT help hackers as much as it helps fixers.

All the exploits are being created against CLOSED source code, not OPEN source code.

It is now fixed.

You have no more comprehension of this than you had of fission/fusion weapons last night. Your computer was attacked by something else. Symantec says only two known sites have been affected by this.

Wow, isn't it exceptional how an unoriginal comment, slavishly repeating Microsoft FUD, can be both monotonous and wrong at the same time?

Here's a couple of hundred of exploits that target Linux (open source)

But the part about attackers going for the biggest bang for the buck, that is mostly true.

Do you really think hackers would spend all their time writing viruses for a program only 10% of people used? I don't think so.
