My spouse's company is giving to the International Red Cross / Red Crescent. Since the Red Crescent has been connected to Moslem countries, I wanted to find out why the Red Crescent was involved. I went to their web site: http://www.ifrc.org/ and found out that a country can have either the Red Cross or the Red Crescent, but not both.
"There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory."
So it sounds like the money given to the Red Cross is going to the International Red Crescent in Indonesia and the other Moslem countries.
We have plenty of posts on the Red Crescent at Free Republic.
Examples:
Palestine's Red Crescent stands up for terrorism http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/985025/posts
Palestine Red Crescent: Instrument Of Mercy Or Terror? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/625825/posts
After realizing this, I would rather send money to the Salvation Army. At least we know they are an American organization. And will not use the money for their pet Anti-American causes.

If you contribute to the International Red Cross / Red Crescent you may as well sent your money directly to Al Queda.
To hell with 'em.

Your husband should refuse to contribute and instead give to the Salvation Army. And if it is his company, divorce him over this.
Ask your husband if he is aware how much the American Red Cross pays its top employees. Give him the following choices:
$35,000 a year
$70,000 a year
$200,000 a year
$600,000 a year
Then tell him wrong! They just got through paying one of their directors a $1,900,000 severance package.
I don't know how much money the company will collect where your husband works, but I seriously doubt it will make a dent in the cost of what was paid for just this one director.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable Christian charity that's helping survivors in these affected areas? Despite the warning on my profile, please feel free to e-mail me if you have this info. Thx, Malcolm
After the ripoff by the red cross of the 911 victims, I don't see why anyone would give through them.
Well said! They have aide agencies offices in Indonesia. I know this as my cousin was a Salvation Army Nurse (Major) and she spent a great deal of time there.
"Isn't it funny how we are supposed to bend over backwards to be tolerant of them and they can't even stand to see the cross on people trying to HELP them.
To hell with 'em."
The other side of the coin is that the ol' International Red Cross to which Americans donate can't stand to see a Star of David. Basic fairness would have the IRC giving Israel's Red Cross the same member and partner status as they give the Red Crescent. The International Red Cross outright refuses to recognize Israel's Red Cross, known as "Magen David Adom (Red Star of David)" They regularly reject her application for membership in the International Red Cross.
On a related note, Sri Lanka's Muslim government shares that anti-Semitism so much that they even rejected the offer of a large Israeli medical team ready immediately after the tsunami tragedy to help victims of all nationalities. These "statesmen" are so supportive of Osama and Saddam that they preferred having their fellow countrymen succumb to their wounds to accepting this top notch emergency medical aid on their behalf.
I wonder if all these aboniations perpetrated by the Red Cross were also going on when Liddy Dole made that $1.9 million salary as head of the org?
Yes. Although the red cross is not a religious symbol, the symbol of the red crescent is used instead of the red cross by national societies in most Islamic countries. Both Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies are part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Yes, they are connected. I didn't know this and it does disturb me. Wonder why!
The Red Cross is bogus no matter what name they use. Sad but true.
Others have suggested the Salvation Army, and I agree you can't go wrong with those folks.
We contribute to Compassion International. They have a good record for getting a good portion of the donation to the end users.
And I've also heard World Vision is good.
They did not object to our military. Even if the freepers statement was true, what does Sri Lanka think 60 Israeli military troops would do? It is just more of the same anti-semitic BS.
Does Jew-hating ever grow old?

I hate to not donate, but giving to non-Christian relief agencies, or those who have questionable practices, can't be tolerated.
"I can't donate to the Salvation Army because they approve of homo marriages."
I never heard this before. Do you have a link to any articles or website on their approval of homosexual marriages?
He is not going to give to the Red Cross/Red Crescent. We also never give to the United Way.
We give privately to the charities, we believe in. I bet more than half the money sent will not go to the victims, especially now that Colin Powell says we are going to join with the UN for distribution of aid.
