Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun charged with desertion
Dec 9, 2004
CAMP LEJEUNE, NC -- The U.S. Marine Corps has charged Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun with desertion following a five-month investigation into his disappearance from a U.S. military camp near Fallujah, Iraq in June.
Hassoun is alleged to have taken unauthorized leave of the unit where he served as an Arabic interpreter.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service submitted the completed Report of Investigation to Hassoun's command Nov. 30. Charges were preferred Dec 9.
Hassoun was also charged with loss of government property and theft of a military firearm for allegedly leaving the Marine camp while still in possession of his 9-mm service pistol, as well as theft and wrongful ... Full Story

I went to the link, but can't find the story.
Please help.
That's better. Thanks.
Why would someone being charged with desertion be allowed to go on leave? This makes no sense to me. Did they think THIS time he would come back?
Sorry, there is no link; that's just the way the forum posts FoxNews.
It was just on Neill Cavuto's show just now.
He was probably kidnapped by Lebanese cousins and has been taken to Beirut against his will.
I wondered the exact same thing!
Wow...that's OUR state! You got a picture of his mug?
Why would they grant leave to someone charged with desertion? That just makes no damned sense.
Again.
Thats exactly what I thought..unless they are really following him. How stupid if they really let him go!
I am glad I am not the only one who thought that! The only thing I can think of is that he got leave approval by accident...maybe an officer new to the base, or something.
Hmmm, just caught the tail end of this report. Something strange about this guy. Suppose his Islam "buddies" don't want him talking? Wild speculation, I know.
Unless I read this wrong, I think he deserted first.
BEFORE the investigation and charges.
"he U.S. Marine Corps has charged Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun with desertion following a five-month investigation into his disappearance from a U.S. military camp near Fallujah, Iraq in June."
Is he a spy? Terrorist?
Could be they let him go on purpose (with a GPS chip in his brain)...
No, he came back and re-joined the Marines. At the time, those of us who were suspicious of him felt rather stupid. But here we are 2 years later, the Marines have brought charges, and the guy was allowed to go on leave!
Ask the "anti-government enforcement" advocates on this thread
they've implanted the GPS chip and are waiting for him to return to Mother Goose
Ping.
he could be laying, gutted in a ditch, for all I care____just for his first offense
Well, well, well. Imagine that.
I saw one on Fox, but can't find one now!
No thanks on that thread! By blood pressure doesn't need any help!
UPDATE: U.S. Reopens Missing Marine Case (Cpl Wassef Hassoun)

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Marines have reopened their investigation in Cpl. Wassef Hassoun, who went missing in June in Fallujah and turned up in Lebanon, CNN reports.
The move was sparked when troops recently discovered several of his personal items, including his passport, military ID and uniform in Fallujah.
Hassoun vanished June 20 and was listed as a deserter. His status was changed to captured after the release of a videotape that showed him blindfolded with a sword suspended over his head. A few days later, a posting to three Islamist Web sites claimed Hassoun had been beheaded.
On July 8, however, Hassoun turned up at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. How he traveled through Iraq to Lebanon remains a mystery, the Salt Lake Tribune said.
Following a repatriation process and a 30-day compassionate leave in Utah, Hassoun returned to duty at Camp Lejeune, N.C., in September and had his first meeting with military investigators.
He was on leave for much of October, spending the Islamic holy month of Ramadan with his family in West Jordan. He returned to Camp Lejeune Wednesday.
This whole story stinks underneath.
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.....but....
I think that may be a bit foolish on my part.
maybe his fellow Mari........nah, couldn't happen.

These are all the article I could find on FR about this:

Certainly not in his uniform. :-)
A traitor who wore the uniform.
Disgusting. I am convinced that terrorists
are in our military right now.
double dirty desertion dumbass ping
busy training with Al Queda no doubt.
It did from the very beginning; many arguements on FR about this one.
??????
Oh.....I remember.
I hesitated on even posting anything.
Why is it that others at FR cannot disagree with you malcontents without being labeled "anti-something advocates?"
Anti-closed borders; anti-American.
We CAN disagree without being anti, period.
Nothing about this guy ever made sense...certainly not his original story. I'll chime in with another "what were they thinking" comment. Wonder what he or his attorney said to make them think he wouldn't run?
Normally when one is being charged with desertion they are restricted to base. I wish (jag lady) were here to clarify this matter in regards to the UCMJ. I think the moral of the story here, is that you can always trust a muzzzlllliiimmbbb to watch your back.(Not Even)
Next photo of him, he will not have had a bath in six months, wearing dirty clothes, long unwashed hair, beard, AK47 or RPC in hands, chanting death to America. A nicely placed bullet hole in the forehead would be nice also.
He's skerrid of the big bad white people in the military?
Perhaps both. Maybe he was indeed a Double-Agent.
I hope they find him at room temperature.
Don't forget the guy who rolled grenades into a 101st Airborne tent on the eve of the invasion.
CNN says he flew to Canada and then Lebanon!! We let him out!
Now this is weird:
