Dem Lays Out Case Against Bush's Ohio Win

WASHINGTON - The senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee protested President Bush's re-election Wednesday with a new report claiming serious election irregularities and "significant disenfranchisement" of voters in Ohio.

The report by Rep. John Conyers of Michigan says Congress should challenge the Electoral College vote when it is tallied Thursday in the House of Representatives and investigate all claims of voter problems in Ohio.

"We have found numerous, serious election irregularities in the Ohio presidential election," the report said. "There are ample grounds for challenging the electors from the state of Ohio."

Ohio's 20 electoral votes were critical for Bush's defeat of Democratic Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. A recount last week showed Bush winning Ohio by 118,457 votes over Kerry, according to an unofficial tally by The Associated Press.

The 102-page report titled "Preserving Democracy: What Went Wrong in Ohio?" lists such problems as unusually long lines, a shortage of voting machines in Democratic-leaning areas, confusion over provisional ballot rules and computer problems.

The report also contends there were widespread instances of intimidation and misinformation, improper purging of voter registration lists, a lack of inspection for about 93,000 ballots where no vote was cast for president, and vote totals not matching registration numbers or exit poll data.

"In many cases these irregularities were caused by intentional misconduct and illegal behavior, much of it involving Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, the co-chair of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio," the report said.

Carlo LoParo, a spokesman for Blackwell, called the report "ludicrous" and a waste of time and taxpayer dollars.

"There are absolutely no grounds for challenging Ohio's electors," LoParo said.

Meanwhile, a small group of House Democrats were looking for a Democratic senator to co-sponsor their challenge of Ohio's 20 electoral votes. A single senator supporting the effort would require the two chambers to meet separately and consider the objection. That scenario, however, would still ensure Bush's re-election because both bodies are controlled by Republicans.

Conyers and a few other Democrats have likened the Ohio results to the contested but much closer vote in Florida four years ago when Bush defeated Vice President Al Gore for the White House.

A small number of House Democrats challenged Florida's electoral votes in January 2001 but could not persuade a senator to join them.

Unhuh. We should rush to embrace Ohio where Dubya won by 118,000 plus votes and ignore states where he lost by just a few thousand. Plus ignore the fraud in Washington state where there were more votes than voters and the democRAT won by a hundred votes or so.

Typical -- I can live with an election that was lost legally but absolutely am furious with whinning and moaning by the Rats about one that was won IN SPITE of their blatent attempts at fraud.

I want every vote counted

What makes F-in' think they weren't? It's interesting to note that whenever they trot out this mantra, they never phrase it "every LEGAL vote counted."

"Blackwell of Ohio, an African-American with credentials as long as your arm, and resume enough to make your head spin, is so much better than Conyers and his ilk ever dreamed of being, that he is a SERIOUS candidate for Governor of Ohio....a favorite son of conservatives."

Ken Blackwell has the support of this conservative for Governor

I've already signed up to work for him.

He's the most outstanding prospect to come out of Ohio since Grant took the Union Army.

Hey Conyers, what about the numerous, serious irregularities in your turkey donation to the poor?

The director of a Detroit food bank wants to know what happened to 60 turkeys -- 720 pounds of frozen birds -- that his charity gave to members of U.S. Rep. John Conyers' local staff two days before Thanksgiving to give to needy people.

Conyers' Detroit office promised an accounting of any turkey distribution by Dec. 27, but the Gleaners Community Food Bank had received no paperwork as of Tuesday, said the charity's director, Agostinho Fernandes.

Fernandes said he became suspicious that the turkeys didn't get to poor people after hearing from a friend that a federal court worker had said he was offered free turkeys from a member of Conyers' staff.

Where's the Report What Went Wrong in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and New Hampshire?

Personally, I hope they get a Senator. It would further entrench the kooks in the dem party and force sensible people to reevaluate who they vote for. We don't have much to lose here. A couple hours for debate followed by a vote which would make the USC/Oklahoma game look like a triple overtime thriller. We get to thrash them, then ridicule them. Plus, it keeps the DU believers providing fun reading until at least the 20th. I'm sure we can all use another two weeks of belly laughs.

The report by Rep. John Conyers of Michigan says Congress should challenge the Electoral College vote when it is tallied Thursday in the House of Representatives ...

Happy New Year, M2C. What's that old chestnut from the McCarthy years? "At long last, sir, have you no shame?!" Well, the Dems don't, of course.

Nevertheless, Conyers' -- er, ummm, cough -- report hasn't got a chance in Hades of being taken seriously by the Republican House. Thing is, he knows that. The point of his "report" is just to continue stoking the fires that were lit in 2000 among the Left/Dem fringe.

Free speech is a wonderful thing, but I really think what Conyers and his ilk are doing crosses the line into sedition. It's a dangerous game they are playing.

If I think that Conyers is an @sshole, does that make me a racist? Gee, I hope not.

Well, since I join you in calling John Conyers an @sshole (and a disgrace to his -- and my -- race, as well), you have been officially inoculated against The Taint Of Racismtm on this thread. :-)

Good old John Conyers. He knows better, but anything to keep the rabble roused. He knows his constituents are ignorant fools, and he has a lifetime job as long as he keeps them thinking he is taking care of their business. What a shameful, disengenuous ba$tard.

The Republicans in the majority should bring a censure motion, and strip him of all committee membership. They won't; that would take some backbone and huevos.

Losers!

Break out the demonRat play book they sent to their braindead masses before the election and you will find this garbage all spelled out on how to cry like a baby and claim cheater, cheater, cheater. Everyone knows the only massive voter fraud is from "enlightened" democrats.

With Bush's margin being over 118,457 votes - it should be clear to all but the deluded he won Ohio by MORE than a razor-thin margin. DUH.

There is no accountability for the false allegations, the hysteria, the innuendo and the outright disruption the Demoncrats are causing. It will not affect the outcome of the election and it serves, only make our system look more foolish, than any found in the third world. Maybe the Ohio government and the GAO ought to bill these jerks,

It occurs to me that the Dims are doing this for the same reason a dog licks it's butt...Because they can

(P.S. my aplogogies to the dog's butt for associating it with such scum)
