Challengers are go (Keith Olbermann says at least 6 senators will challenge Ohio's Electoral Votes)

Sick Bed, New York Nothing is in writing and daybreak is a long way away, but it appeared all but certain in early evening Wednesday that House Democrats had secured the support of up to half a dozen Senators to formally challenge the Electoral College slate from Ohio, when the votes are opened before a joint session of Congress tomorrow.
Congressional sources tell this reporter that the house half of the written objection which has the declared support of more than a dozen Representatives is expected to be signed by Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio. Republican leadership expects the Senate signatory to be Barbara Boxer of California, but this has not yet been formalized. The Majority is also worried about the possible absence of many of its members in both houses, and the prospect that a quorum might not be achieved, leading the process into uncharted, albeit not very threatening, constitutional grounds. There is a mathematical, if not practical, chance that the ratification of the Electoral College vote could be delayed past tomorrow.

I guess that campaign 2008 starts in reality tomorrow - whomever on the Senate side that stands and objects to these votes will be the new leader of the DUmmies, the chief barker of the freak show, the master of the Laptop Liberals.
I'd rather shoot myself than be saddled with that group.

How ridiculous. No Senator challenged the Florida results in 2000 and they're gonna challenge the Ohio results in 2004?? What could they possibly hope to gain from this other than shredding their credibility?

I think the writing's on the wall for them, and they're in panic mode.. "do anything!" is running the show now.
They actually had a somewhat legit chance at contesting the last one.. At least nobody would've trashed them too hard for it. This time is totally different. There's no question that Bush won by a substantial margin.
This is political desperation at its finest.

In my uneducated opinion, this is an attempt to get the republicans to go "nuclear" outside of a judicial nominee.... This way it the issue can make it's way through the court and and possibly be rejected before it's used by a nominee.
To: RWR8189
This doesn't surprise me. Boxer wouldn't do this unless her fellow Democrats agreed.
The Democrats have been pure partisan bulldogs since 1992. If they can delay the confirmation of the vote with a filibuster or a quorum call, they will certainly do it, and then the media can talk about Republican cheating and partisanship for the next four years.

Going on the offense is how democrats cover their own fraud. The Fraud in Washington State is coming out and the Democrats need to muddy the waters for all elections.

As I have stated before here on fr, they are going to push this envelope farther than ever before. They are going to the mattresses with no holds barred. Desperate people do desperate things. I hope I am watching the self-destructivness of this "party" come to an end. My other hope is Zell or some younger true democrat pull the party towards rationality and really make a difference for the good of the Republic.

You're right.
I suppose this could be looked at as encouraging. If the Dems are going to have a full live meltdown there must be cause for it. Perhaps their grasp on power behind scenes isn't quite as formidable as still thought to be. Or, my old theory stands. They are insane. Both could be true.
Anyway, I welcome the challenge! It's entertaining, further erodes any respectability they once commanded, and if a few "red state '06" Senators would like to join them it would be a dream come true.
This is really the result of the '60's hippie culture coming of age. Live "sit-ins" and demonstrations in the halls of Congress. pretty soon the'll be streaking with the word 'Peace" emblazoned on the body. I only hope it isn't Kennedy.

I'd be shocked if this really happens. The Democrats are idiots but even I don't think they're this stupid. Hahah. I wouldn't be surprised at all. Within the next ten years, after continual losses of house and senate seats, I can even picture them attempting a coup and rolling out the red carpet for the Chinese army, in exchange for power, with Barbara Boxer being granted the position of governor of 'New Beijing" (formerly Wash. D.C.) where she'll finally get her lifelong wish of instituting complete and total abolishment of private gun ownership.
To: AntiGuv
Well with Boxer I expect she'd gain support in her district.

Trying to unseat an incumbent wartime President that won both the electoral and the popular vote. Can you imagine if these people had a majority in the House and Senate? They would have a successful coup and overturn the election.

No, it won't end until they rip the country apart. If they had a legislative majority we would be seeing a successful political coup tomorrow instead of this farce. They would, if the could, impose by legislative vote an anti-President who was neither the electoral or the popular vote winner during wartime.
We are very lucky that they have no real power. If they did, we could have a huge political earthquake in this country.

No Democrat would vote for Bush.True, but they still consider themselves D's and would revert to auto pilot and go back to pulling the "D" lever in future elections, unless the democrats pull this little stunt, which would probably serve to force some of these people out of denial and motivate them to change their registrations.
