Original quote from Iraq the Model
A translated report about an election poll from Al-sabah.
Thanks to Ladybird for the translation. Actually I've heard about this poll few days ago but couldn't have the time to translate it. The headlines of this poll were:
1-The poll was of 4974 Iraqis living in and around Baghdad.
2-Will the security problems cause you to? Not come out and vote the day of elections = 18.3% Come out and vote the day of elections = 78.3% No opinion = 3.4%
3-Do you support military action against the terrorists?Yes = 87.7 %No = 11.1% Dont Know = 1.2%
If these were the results that appeared after taking samples from in and around Baghdad which is considered to be the most dangerous area in the country (and inhabited by lots of Sunni Iraqis by the way!), then what would the results look like if the samples were taken from Basra or Erbil??

Better than in the US. If they hold up, W will have been proven right again, and he will have been misunderestimated again.
give the Iraqis a chance...they might surprise you....
The turnout will be more than 90% in Shiite and Kurdish areas and probably between 12-20% in Sunniland.
In other words, despite fear of attack, there will be a better turnout for Iraqi elections that we get for our elections here.
The Sunnis are slow learners to the fact that, in a democracy, it's all about getting your base out.
The discrepancy is not a surprise. For the Sunnis, its all about being formally relegated to minority status. After all, they're 20% of the population and that's why the terrorist insurgency is going nowhere despite all the intimidation, mayhem and bloodshed the terrorists have and are inflicting on the country.
Let's hope. Afganistan set the example despite the violence. God bless those brave people. Notice how it took the wind right out of the Taliban sails. It will do the same in Iraq.
Can you imagine 78% of eligible Americans voting in an election? And here the greatest danger you face is running into a Moron.org volunteer.
The contrast between the reporting of what is happening in Iraq, and what non-press affiliated people on the ground have to say is like night and day...
Amazing how the tables have turned. Now I want to sing, "Give Peace a Chance." And I'm not Joan Baez.
Or you might encounter MEN IN SUITS.
So the Iraqi's are not in support of the "insurgents" blowing their families up? Gee, who would have thought!
Good for them. Nothing could send a stronger message to the world than high turnout in the face of terrorist intimidation, weak willed sceptics that whine about standing in rain to vote, or in defiance of a sceptical world that would prefer they had remained oppressed by Saddam.
My prayers are with them. Good Luck.
As long as you don't sound anything like that soul-less woman, you can go ahead and sing it.
Yes they are. I hope the Iraqis understand that after the election, and a government is established, the terrorists won't stop killing innocent Iraqis. Until of course, you kill em all. Which would be great.

Yes, very good numbers. Why is it then that our media feeds us a diet of horror stories, failed goals and seemingly unwinable situations?
Our media is friggen pathetic.
Thanks for the encouraging report.
My son (US Army) is in Iraq. And when good news, such as this, hits the boards, it shows what tremendous progress we have made against the MSM.
I'm quite proud of our Comander-in-Chief and his soldiers.
Ditto. And I'm quite proud of your son too.
Not only are these numbers better than the U.S. turnout, I would bet that Iraq encounters less fraud -- especially since the Democratic Party isn't running there.
All Americans should be proud...Thank your Son for his service to our Country
In other news, Democrats are saddened because this is lower than the 100% of the voters that Saddam Hussein claims turned out to vote for him.
