SpongeBob, Barney promote 'gay tolerance (FedEx to Sponsor in Gov't Schools)
WorldNetDaily ^ | January 6, 2005

In a new video to be distributed to 61,000 schools across the nation, homosexual activists are using popular children's TV characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Barney the dinosaur to surreptitiously indoctrinate young children into their lifestyle, a pro-family activist group charges.

SpongeBob Squarepants is one of the popular children's TV characters appearing in a new 'tolerance' video.

Based on the 1970s hit song "We Are Family," the video will be distributed to public and private elementary schools nationwide March 11, along with lesson plans for teachers, points out the American Family Association.

The distribution, sponsored by FedEx, will coincide with the video's broadcast March 11 on Nickelodeon, PBS, and the Disney Channel in celebration of the proposed National We Are Family Day.

AFA researcher Ed Vitagliano sees the project as an "open door" to a secondary discussion of homosexuality, noting the the foundation has a "tolerance pledge" on its website that children and others are encouraged to sign, which includes sexual orientation. [Editor's note: This story previously linked to the website of a group that has the same name but no connection to the video. WND regrets the error.]

"While we want everyone to respect other people's beliefs, we do not consider it appropriate for children's television to be used in an effort to indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality," he said.

Vitagliano says the foundation is employing a bait-and-switch approach, with popular children's figures such as Arthur, Dora the Explorer, JoJo, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Big Bird and Bob the Builder.

The objective is to get children to the foundation's website "and there they're given the full pitch about homosexuality," he said.

Video producer Christopher Cerf called the video an "unprecedented event."

"For the first time characters from all of the important kids shows came together to appear in the same video," he said in a November news release. "The producers and performers from each show embraced the spirit and message of this project."

The We Are Family Foundation was founded by singer-songwriter Nile Rodgers, who wrote the hit song recorded in 1979 by Sister Sledge.

The video was financed by a grant from the Toni Mendez Shapiro estate.

"Cooperation and unity are the most important values we can teach children," Rodgers said. "We believe that this is the essential first step to loving thy neighbor."

The We Are Family Foundation says its partners in the production are the Anti-Defamation League, Crown Theatres, Disney Channel, FedEx, Nickelodeon, HIT Entertainment, Nile Rodgers/Sony Publishing/The Bernard Edwards Estate/Warner Chapel, Nelvana, PBS, Scholastic, Sesame Workshop, Toni Mendez Shapiro Estate, and WGBH-TV in Boston.

A Federal Express spokesman said the company is "proud" to provide shipping for the project.

"Promoting diversity is part of our corporate culture at FedEx," said William G. Margaritis, senior vice president, worldwide corporate communications.

Characters appearing in the video are from award-winning shows including "Arthur," "Barney," "Bear in the Big Blue House," "Between the Lions," "Blue's Clues, Bob the Builder," "The Book of Pooh," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Dora the Explorer," "Jimmy Neutron," "JoJo's Circus," "Kim Possible," "Lilo & Stitch: The Series," "Little Mermaid," "Madeline," "The Magic School Bus," "The Muppet Show," "The Proud Family," "Rugrats," "Sesame Street," "SpongeBob SquarePants," and "Zoom."

The video also features cameo appearances by entertainers Bill Cosby, Diana Ross and Whoopi Goldberg.

And it is a two sided issue, in which neither side is right or wrong. It is personal belief that puts you on one side or the other. And that is purely subjective.

Schools don't put forth the "against" side of homosexuality, they only push the "for" side.

Why must the nature of any person be discussed in this "let's all be friends" group hug? If we shall not commit acts of violence or harassment against our neighbor, that includes kids with glasses, overweight kids, smart kids, dumb kids, colorblind kids, poor kids, etc.

There is a whole lot more to tackle before we get to sexual fetishes.

I think MTV is much worse than the cartoon characters. When MTV started, they showed music videos. Now all their Real World episodes and shows are all about straight girls trying to conquer gay guys or gay on gay, whatever. They present all as if it is perfectly normal. MTV must be 100% gay at the top. They should just change it to Gay TV instead of MTV.

Do you have any proof or links?

Proof or links to what? To prove that girls are molested? i stated no facts or figures. Just a basic statement of that which is common knowledge. When i had my daughter, i did do some reading on the subject so that i could educate her, and seem to recall that up to(aproximately) the age of 11 boys are at higher risk of molestation, and that girls from 11 up are the high risk group...but alas, it's been so long since i read it, i don't recall where...sorry.
The fact that little girls are molested by men as pedophiles or pederasts does not detract from the first fact.

Sorry, again, if that was the implication behind what i typed. More simply put, there is a distinction between homosexuals and pedophiles, and they shouldn't be lumped together. Sure, look down on both if you choose, but recognize that there is a difference.

Not all gays are pedophiles, and not all pedophiles are gay.

Do you deny that there are women who molest boys AND those who molest girls?

Now why would i do something as silly as that? i was just stating that all of the women that i know personally that were molested, were molested by males.

Annecdotal evidence does not count for much.

MTV's sister network is Nickelodeon. Parent corporation is Viacom, same as CBS.

The whole lot of them push an evil agenda.

MTV is brazen about it. There's no hidden agenda. It's right out there. They are even promoting plastic surgery these days as a trendy thing to do. On one hand, they promote tolerance while telling their audience that they aren't good enough unless they have this or that plastic surgery. It's a Hollywood agenda they're pushing.

Schools don't put forth the "against" side of homosexuality, they only push the "for" side.

Possibly because a lot(no not all, but enough to make it "touchy") of the "against" side is based in religion, and schools are now afraid to go there?
There is a whole lot more to tackle before we get to sexual fetishes.

my daughter's school has a pretty tough "anti-bullying" program in place, and they monitor it very strictly. They are also a part of the "Character Counts" program, which acknowledges students for upstanding behavior. So there is atleast some attempt being made.

Amen!

Now they're calling it "sexual identity" instead of what it really is: Sexual preference aka sodomy. Sodomy is described in Webster's dictionary as "unnatural sexual intercourse, esp. between males or with an animal."

I blame Hollywood for much of today's perversions and liberals for bringing Hollywood's cause into politics.

Isn't all of this part of Clinton's "Dumbing Down of American's Children"? I believe you can find the
article through Google.

But it is personal experience that causes us to form opinions. And i'm simply sharing my experiences and opinion. i'm not out to change anybody's mind. If anything, i share my views to get others to share theirs, so that i can learn.

So anecdotal evidence does count for something ; )

No bullying is a pretty clear concept.

When instructors say "don't bully them just because they are...", a social agenda is being advanced outside of "no bullying".

As I say, in schools and in public Republicans and their kids were targeted for violence and harassment (swastikas, vandalism, etc.) yet no course syllabus includes political ideology as something to respect or even tolerate.

I think that Linda Ellerbee has had a "sit down discussion" with children aired on Nickelodeon about homosexuality. I know that she produced one on Bill Clinton's lies about his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

i'm so glad my daughter goes to school where she does! That type of behavior would not be tolerated. As a matter of fact, they held a mock election, and used it to teach the kids to respect the differences in opinion.

As for the adults acting that way...i just don't know. What a sad state of affairs, eh?

By your attitude that nothing is wrong and everything is worthy of respect you are embracing their values along with everything else.

I never said that everything is worthy of respect. Every person I think is and there is the key difference. I don't make judgements on people based simply on what they believe in or do.
