Frankly, she wouldn't be able to take credit for anything from 1994-2000, welfare reform, strong economy, budget, etc.

All she would have is her Senate career, which is about as interesting as John Kerry's. That and her failed healthcare plan of course.

The hit job that was done on Newt proved how much the Clintons feared him. Without Newt there may not have been all those investigations into the Toons.

Overblown. He's hawking a book, and the full quote makes it clear he's NOT saying he's interested in running.

Much ado about nothing.

I would urge those of you who would consider voting for Gingrich to read Tom Coburn's book. He really shows the real Gingrich and how he governs.

Bright guy with terminal foot-in-mouth disease.

He has a terrible habit of working out his ideas while he talks to the press. Can you imagine his press secretary's blood pressure when Newty does that?

I'm hoping Newt has a book out about the Contract on America just about the time Hitlery tries to take credit for it in 2008. That would be sweet!

Newt Gingrich is a true conservative and a great American, but for many Republicans he's not very politically correct.

Personally, on any given day I'd take a Newt presidential run over the candidacy of a Rudi or a Schwarzy. Newt is a Reaganite to the core.

"Newt Gingrich is taking steps toward a potential presidential bid in 2008 with a book criticizing President Bush's policies on Iraq and a tour of early campaign states."

How come Ginrich isn't all over Kerry?

Oh, I forgot, Ginrich is a big star on FOX News.

Newt lacks the maturity to effectively engage issues. He comes across as strident. He escalates his rhetoric as a self indulgence, rather than as a technique to persuade, and thus is ineffectual, and when he gained power, was a most useful tool for Clinton. Ha cannot help himself. Like many boomers, but certainly not all, he never really grew up. That's my psychobabble thought for the day.

I should add that he links he is an intellectual, when he is more of a guy who is in love with the idea of being an intellectual, without being one. The guy lacks depth. That was Barney Frank's observation, and I agree with him.

Dan --

Looks like we are going to have fun in 2006 with all these types wanting to run. I wouldn't vote for Gingrich for dog catcher.

The point is Newt is not qualified. He is not electable period.

We can't be hypocrites and slam William the Zipper and then try to put someone in the White House who is cut from the same cloth.

Newt doesn't "think" he is an intellectual. He backs up what he says with facts, psuedoi-intellectuals just say what sounds and feels good yet when they are put on the spot they usually cough and sputter and just repeat whatever mantra they are spewing.

I said 2006 because I believe every last candidate will be out trying to get more Republicans elected and slamming each other at the same time. Then the real fun will start if Newt gets in the race for 2008. Don't know where he thinks he is going to get support but not going to happen from here!

Sorry, but I have listened to Newt's stuff. Much of it is really rather spacey, sort of generalized futurist cant. And his over the top rhetoric is quite grating. The guy is self indulgent, and fails to perceive his own rather consequential limitations.

That's how I see it.

We are going to need every weapon we have to defeat Hitlery and Newt is the perfect guy to slap her down when she tries to take credit for the Contract With America. Let's not start eating our own, I know the GOP loves to do that but 2008 is going to be too important for that nonsense.

IMO, Newt has WAY too many negatives to run for President.
