WASHINGTON (AP) -- Newt Gingrich is taking steps toward a potential presidential bid in 2008 with a book criticizing President Bush's policies on Iraq and a tour of early campaign states.

The former House speaker who led Republicans to power a decade ago said he soon will visit Iowa and New Hampshire to promote his book, try to influence public policy and keep his political options alive.

"Anything seems possible," including a White House race, Gingrich told The Associated Press.

So what do all of you think of this?

Other than Gingrish, Phil Graham would be another good contender.

The libs hate Newt. I like him. Not sure he's the best choice though.

Newt needs to give it a rest. There is no way that he could ever be elected.

With Hagel and Newt, I find it interesting that people who consider themselves serious candidates for the GOP nomination (and aren't total political dimwits) think there is gold in going after the first re-elected GOP President since Reagan. I wonder what poll numbers they are looking at.

Newt is doing this because he's more than a little ticked off that Arlen Specterites are currently controlling the GOP in Congress. He may go as far as pulling a Theodore Roosevelt to save the GOP for conservatism.

Depending upon who gets nominated in 2008, I may support him on it.

Heh, so why is Gingrich unelectable if Reagan and Bush are proven electable?

Gingrich is a bit more moderate than Bush' rhetoric, any way. But I think he will deliver more actual substance.

Gingrich doesn't rule out presidential run

Well he should rule it out, and as soon as humanly possible.

Newt would be a disastrously bad president. (Look at the mess he made while Speaker of the House....)

I thought Newt's days of delusional fallacy were over. Guess not. Maybe he can get Rush to be VP. They can staff their entire campaign with ex-wives.

I like Newt. But no. We'd lose, big time.

Try Sanford instead. He's got all Newt's better qualities without the baggage. Plus, he's squeaky clean and the media doesn't have anything on him (yet).

"Newt would be a disastrously bad president. (Look at the mess he made while Speaker of the House....)"

Hmm, that is odd.

I seem to remember him giving the Republicans their first majority in Congress after more than 40 years as a minority party.
