Mel Gibson post-award press conference-"Kinship" with Michael Moore

Posted on 01/10/2005 10:33:48 AM PST by bushfamfan

Does anyone have the quotes that Mel Gibson apparently made after receiving his People's Choice Award in saying he felt a "kinship" with Michael Moore and attacking the war in Iraq?

He's not a flaming liberal. I think it's okay if someone feels uncomfortable with a Christian movie defining red state America (as if there are no blue state Christians).

Gibson and Moore have been mentioned together for some two months now. Every time an awards show comes up "The Passion" and "F9/11" are immediately put to the forefront of discussion and talked about like no other movies were produced that year. Media shows and publications constantly compare/contrast them as being polar opposites of the film spectrum. Both films were difficult to get released to the mass public due to studios being too concerned with backlash. Both were released amid huge controversy from critics calling the films anti-semitic or anti-american. Both were insanely successful due to everyone's predictions of flopping. All of these things considered and people are shocked that Gibson would make a statement saying he feels a sort of strange kinship with Moore??

He didn't "sucker" anyone. Antiwar freepers pointed out that he was antiwar at the time the Passion was released.

Why don't you set the example right here and now and publicly repudiate your fathers sins?

I do. My father was a Democrat and a segregationist for most of his life. I disagreed with him publicy over it, and he ended his life understanding that his views were racist, and he repudiated them.

Gibson will not do what I just did to a father who is blatantly anti-semitic.

WHHHAAAAAAAAj!!! MOMMIE!!!!!!

LOL. "Deez vewwy bad pepo aw saying vewwy, vewwy bad tings about ow hewo Meww! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" ;O)

Ironically, if Mr. Gibson is the spiritual giant so many seem to think he is, he rejoices and welcomes any and all persecution he endures for the Lord's sake.

I'm sorry your father has passed away. Perhaps you can cut him some slack. Old time Deomcrats were a lot more conservative then most of today's Republicans.

>considering that fraudenhype 9-11 was purely political propaganda you can[t take politics out of it.<

Why absolutely you can. A professional like Mel Gibson knows there is much more than the message involved in making a film.

Perhaps because Gibson is a public figure, and him publicly denouncing his father's beliefs does not compare with a regular Joe or Jane "publicly" denouncing one of their family members? Would the NYT or similar publication bother to report about that? I think not.

Why don't you educate me from what Jesus Taught while he was on earth that warranted the crusades or the Holocaust

One, the Holocaust had NOTHING to do with Christians. That was pagan German Nazis killing Jews.

The Crusades were a defensive war against muslims that had conquered the Middle East. They took back the Holy Land.

Luke 22:36 - Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

How hard is this to understand ? Self-defense is certainly allowed.

Gibson always struck me as a Chronicles-reading Paleocon. Hence, he was against the Iraq war.

My father is deceased he died as a racist and as a lonely man I would not address him publicy for any of his views I pray for his soul to GOD I would not defy any family member unless they commited a horrible crime agaisnt a human being.

Possibly, but I'm not one who thinks he's a perfect person with all the answers. That said, I thought TPOTC was a well done film, as did my husband (who is an atheist).

What I find really galling is not his opposition to the war, per se, but his admission that he LIKES Moore's Nazi-style agitprop! Good grief! How terribly disappointing.

And to admit that he's never been given an explanation about why we're in Iraq?!! C'mon! Reject the explanation if you want, but don't blame others for not doing your homework. There's enough info out there for you.

That said, I like Gibson's movies, The Man Without a Face, Braveheart, The Passion, but I've been finding myself really annoyed when he makes public appearances. I still believe he's a good person and he's done good things...he's just....well apparently stupid about certain things.
