"...hundreds of students attended a rally..."
Targets of opportunity, IDF!
I think that the desire for peace is so great that any straw will be grasped at. In my hmo, that is what is going on now. I only wonder how many passes Abbas will get? Arafat got endless passes so I am quite worried.
I find the discussion of "peace" and "hudna" in the same breath disgusting. A hudna is a dishonorable truce--there is no honesty, and no intention of moving onwards towards peace.
What about this makes you feel deceived by President Bush?
Lesson learned: Free elections means people are free to elect terrorists as their leaders.
Then what?
Islam at it's finest! As usual...
I call for a Daisy Cutter on Hamas.
i, too, would like to know what, in the article, leads you to doubt Bush's intentions toward militant Islamists?
I don't think HE has ever backed down, but when he has a State Dept., and ex-Presidents (Carter) over there acting like the Palestinians are the aggrieved party and that Israeli are the terrorists, then he has to be more nuanced in his reactions to what is going on over there.
I am a big fan of Tony Blair, but when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians, he tends to show too much optimism that the Palestinians will behave. They won't.
Please understand that the onus is on Abbas. His future actions, not his words are what are being tested here. Bush is extending Abbas an opportunity to do the right thing here. If he doesn't, rest assured, he will get the same treatment Bush extended to Arafat.
I have a feeling you were unseasy to begin with and pretending to support Bush. Why would this make you change your mind now? It involves Israel and the Palestinians who have been fighting for over 50 years.
useasy = uneasy
He's just playing politics. He has to give the new Palestinian leader at least one chance for the world community. Bush knows the terrorist Abu Mazen is going to fail the test... and then Bush will have free will to take another hard line against the palestinians.
Let me say that you prolly have less that favorable news over there regarding Bush---I hope it doesn't surprise you to know that the Mainstream Media over here are less than favorable towards Bush, therefore, I can understand why you have questions---
Bush is somewhat of a poker player, in my opinion, in that he will act like he is doing something one way, but is actually doing something else so his enemies both here and abroad are left off guard.
There are things about George Bush that I even have problems with but being hardcore against Islamic terrorists is not one of them. I believe he would put on a uniform hisself and fight Bin Ladin if he could.
He would be seen as too "hardline" if he doesn't at least make a show of giving Abbas a "chance". Judging from some of the things that Abbas has said in the last few days, I wouldn't look for a second chance. Remember, according to the Democrats he is "surrounded by neo-cons (Jews) and is doing their bidding". I think this is a political move.
