FLASH: Bush: 'No women in combat'...

President Bush granted THE WASHINGTON TIMES an extensive and exclusive interview late Tuesday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.

Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the government.

"I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is.

President Bush's policy on women in ground combat takes just four words to articulate: "No women in combat."

Despite extended tours of duties in Iraq for soldiers and an Army examination of women's roles, the president told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that he has no intention of sending women into ground combat, a mission for which they are banned under Pentagon policy.

Reporters Rowan Scarborough, Joseph Curl and James Lakely, along with TIMES chief Wes Pruden, probed Bush during the White House session.

Dr. Anthony Flew, formerly, until a month ago, the world's foremost atheist, would have to disagree with you on that one.

Now you've gone and done it: you've exposed yourself to our prayers on your behalf. For myself, I'm simply praying that within this next week God will break through your deliberate rejection of Him to reveal Himself unmistakeably to you.

By the way, that's step 1, to become aware and convinced of His existence. Step 2 is to realize how wonderful He is, specifically how much He loves you.

Well, if he believes in God, salvation, and an afterlife and he's wrong then he'll be in the same situation as you when you both die. However, what if you're wrong? Are you willing to gamble on eternity?

That is an interesting point, but also beside the point. If a man does not realize that it is not necessary to have a relationship with "the Lord" to be president, and a good president, than he is a man who is small minded and inexperienced in life.

And he is also a man who has a small-minded conception of "the Lord."

That doesnt mean he doesnt get things right, even a lot of things right. But he gets them right (or wrong) about as much as a man who does not have a relationship with "the Lord."

W is no Reagan. Reagan was a rare man. Reagan was a man who had a "relationship with the Lord," but he was deep enough to understand that "the Lord" allowed all sorts of men to be all sorts of leaders.

No man can define what "the Lord" does, or wants, or wishes, other than for a man to have integrity.

Reagan had integrity. That is why he was a rare man.

"to be president you have to be an atheist at heart. you can't worry about your soul or your relationship with some sort of god if you have sworn to defend the US'"

You gotta admit, their last President lived up to that statement-except for the "defend" part.

I find it interesting on FR that Christians define themselves as people who want to piss off other people, or to antagonize them. And no doubt you could come up with scripture to support pissing people off.

But I tell you plainly, the beauty of Jesus was not in pissing people off.

The beauty was in loving even one's enemy, including loving them in an actual, spiritual way.

For some reason, Christians on the site by and large hate the thought of love.

Prove it. I know, you can't. That's OK.

I'll pray for you, Mr. Atheist evangelist.
