what I find is that those who have defined and guarenteed health benefits just hate the idea of the rest of us getting anything similar....

the old " I got mine" syndrome.....

its similar in reality to the Social Security rip-off....people are just so very happy to live off the taxes of others so they can enjoy themselves....

and whether you already take money from Uncle Sam via pension, via Medicare, vis govt or civil service job, or military, or dissabiltiy, etc etc....you are getting tax supported benefits, my taxes are included in that.....

why can't some of the vast amount of money I pay actually go for MY family .....

>>we live in two Americas...those that get the great health care for almost nothing...and those of us who have been victims of corporate greed and are not on the govt dole.....<<

This is the answer I want from sinkspur; Cultural Jihad; nuconvert; followerofchrist; Luis Gonzales; Chemist_Geek; Valin; ...

"Why is it not okay to provide for the working American who obeys all the laws, pays their taxes on time and is reluctant to ask for assistance from the public agencies but okay to provide for these illegals and criminals?"

Because it's Hillary's idea and not the Presidents?

The President doesn't care what the age of the illegals is, does he?

When are you going to be able to see their goals are the same?

Once a Kennedy, always a Kennedy. Once a socialist, always a socialist. When are the people of Massacusetts going to wake up? Certainly not in our lifetime. Even if Kennedy dies or doesn't run for re-election (ha!), they'll just elect a Kennedy clone.

With the confidence that they will be re-elected.

We punished our children when they lied as kids but we re-elect politicians and consider them to be great nationalrepresentatives.

Where is the common sense and/or logic in that?

Liberals have had an internal debate since the 1960s over whether government programs whould be means-tested (like welfare) or universal (like Social Security). In addition to the socialist desire to expand the welfare state, the universlaist position gains support from liberals who distrust the ability of means-tested programs to maintain political support. They worry that means-tested programs can disappear with a change of the political winds, while universal programs like SS are much more resistant to being dismantled. Welfare reform has probably increased this distrust and moved some liberals to the universalist position.

Good point. "Universal" is just that -- universal, everyone. "Means-tested," depending on on how broad, may only benefit a small minority such as the poor. It's easier and more popular for the non-poor majority to cut back or even to take it away from them.

We have rationing right now.

They must, or else the program will go broke. When patients pay little or nothing for medical care, there is a tempration to be wasteful and demanding. Plus, they don't appreciate what they are receiving and they complain if they are expected to pay a token sum for care -- after all, it's an "entitlement."

"ask President Bush because he is the one who is leaving the borders open and restricting just where the ICE agents are allowed to operate in their quest for law enforcement."

"You get down on bended knee if the idea comes out of a republicans mouth but stand and scream when a democrat says the same thing."

You must have me confused with someone else.

I have Never been a proponent of Pres. Bush's Mexican immigration policies.
And I will criticize (and do) any idea I think is detrimental to the U.S., republican sponsored or not.
