Now we know where we should not have sent our personal contributions. I am truly sorry that the Indonesian government hates itself so much that it fears being made to look lesser by accepting aid. The government would look better by having its priorities straight.
The focus should be on helping the victims of the disaster, not the victims of bad government in Indonesia. That the government would offer up human sacrifices to recover its own ego is what is saddest of all.

Compared to the megalomaniac keeping the people of Burma (Myanmar, or whatever) from getting any outside aid, Indonesia is at least letting the world give some comfort to its shattered population.
I feel so bad for the people of Burma. The devastation is as great as the rest of the region, but that tinpot dictator refuses to allow them some help.
They probably resent how the massive generosity of the West, and particularly the US, is showing how little other very wealthy Muslim nations are helping. For the US Navy it is not a religious issue, they're there to help, but for Indonesia everything is a religious issue...this is something the left never grasps about the world.
