"Rathergate" Scandal Takes New Turn - (Col.David Hackworth was "secret source!)
A.I.M.ORG ^ | JANUARY 13, 2005 | CLIFF KINCAID

Posted on 01/13/2005 5:05:51 PM PST by CHARLITE

Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media (AIM), commented that, "Rather's reference to Abu Ghraib, in the context of preparing the bogus attack on Bush, demonstrates that the agenda of Rather and CBS was not only to sabotage Bush's re-election campaign but to undermine the war in Iraq. They were looking for 'big' stories to hurt the U.S. at home and abroad. The Abu Ghraib story on CBS inflamed the Arab/Muslim world against the U.S., inevitably costing the lives of more American soldiers in Iraq at the hands of fanatical Muslim terrorists."

AIM and Romerstein drew attention to another bombshell in the report--that CBS used David Hackworth to vouch for the authenticity of the fake documents. The report says that Hackworth, who writes a regular column running under the title "Defending America," accepted the fake memos used by CBS as legitimate and taped an interview for broadcast saying so.

In what can only be seen as a major blow to his credibility as a spokesman on military affairs, the CBS report (page 96) says that Hackworth was interviewed by Rather for the Guard story "as an expert to evaluate the documents that Mapes obtained from Lieutenant Colonel Burkett."

"All hack has to do is play like he's a little girl on the internet and then ritter can meet him at a burger king or something."

BURN!

A petty observation, to be sure, but his TV garb always made him look like he was about ready to smear black stuff on his face and head off for a secret commando mission some where. Hack is very much aging, but the crew cut and black turtle neck seemed to me a phony "tough guy" image he was projecting for the cameras.

My thoughts exactly, Leni!

Cheers, CC :)

Hackworth, as noted, has all the credentials in the world.
Now the But!
When you begin to undermine the war and the officers in charge, you are no longer the "soldier's soldier" looking out for the "rifleman". You have become part of a nefarious enemy which harms those very troops.

Example 1: from what I've read, there was humiliation and debasement, not torture at Abu Graib. Now, we are limited in tactics and methods for getting information, which could prevent roadside bombs or civilian or political casualties.
Case 1: That is how Hackworth has supported the troops.

Example 2: Rules of Engagement. Can't shoot unless they shoot, instead of "Find the enemy, Kill the enemy!".
Case 2: That is how Hackworth has supported the troops.

He can make all the claims he wants about supporting the troops. He has jeopardized their safety! IMO!

"In some ways, Hackworth is now becoming somewhat like Scott Ritter...........i.e. losing credibility, stature, reputation?"

Old Hackworth!

He is buddies with G.Gordon. He is a back stabbing S.O.B. He talks like a conservative and acts like a communist Liberal.

He is the S.O.B. that delivered the first photos of Abu Grab to Congress. He is a troublemaker that will do anything to get his ugly mug on TV, even if, it means lying. A whole lot like McCain.

Hackworth was exposed as a lying blowhard a long time ago. What would you expect for someone who got his journalistic "start" by writing for Soldier Of Fortune?

CBS's report failed to mention him.

The report from The Panel not only mentions him but also has a transcript of the interview w/ him on the 'documents'...an interview that was intended for the 60 Minutes broadcast but wasn't used. Hackworth comes off as being both stupid & an asshole, not that that's a surprise.

Hack went after Admiral Boorda. Eventually it was determined that Boorda was indeed entitled to the ribbon he wore.

Hackworth on the other hand was found to have a ribbon on his website that he did NOT earn and was forced to remove that ribbon from his website.

I don;t know why, but I have always thought that Nick Berg has something to do with this.

WHEREVER those "Pictures" originated, They showed a MASSIVE LEVEL of COMPLETE IDIOCY!!

"ABU GRAIB" was a TOTAL BREAKDOWN of LOCAL MILITARY DISCIPLINE---NOT a "Symptom of a 'Systemic Failure!'"

ABU GRAIB was an ABBERRATION---NOT a "Bellweather of" the Behavior of ANY AMERICAN TROOPS!!

Those who choose to Believe Otherwise, ought to be "Suspect of" Having an "Agenda!"

I don;t know why, but I have always thought that Nick Berg has something to do with this.

The bombshell we haven't seen is the footage Michael Moore took interviewing Berg before he was captured. He has buried it and won't tell anyone what was in it. I suspect it is because it showed Berg to be a proto-John Walker Lindh confessing support for the insurgents and how he was just there to "help" them a la Rachel Corrie. His interview would have added to 9/11's anti-Bush storyline if it had held, but the apple cart was upended when Berg was kidnapped and beheaded.

I'd really love to see that interview.

And John Kerry has a bogus "Combat V" on his Silver Star and no one seems to care (including Hackworth).

I'd like to know how the heck anyone could authenticate anything from COPIES.

Or that anyone had to PROVE they were FAKES to establish one's innocense.

I used to have some interest and respect for Hackworth, given his military service, but when he totally ignored all the accusations against Kerry brought by the Swift Boat Vets, I washed my hands of him. As someone else mentioned here in an earlier post: what a blowhard.

I have no respect for hackworth. I consider him to be a turncoat and a publicity hound.

Actually hackworth is through as a spokesman for reliable military news. Who the hell could trust him or for that matter Wes Clark.
