Roemer Lashes Out In DNC Chairman Race
CNN ^ | Sunday, January 16, 2005

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- The campaign for Democratic chairman turned contentious over the weekend when Tim Roemer lashed out at criticism of his views on abortion and accused opponents of negative campaigning.

The candidate told a gathering in St. Louis that he wanted to have "a conversation" on issues but that he is "having trouble doing this because of negative campaigning and litmus tests."

His voice rising, Roemer added, "I like a good fight. But don't put my arms behind me. Give me a chance to talk about my values. And don't litmus-test me."

Roemer's comments came at the opening of a candidates' forum at the Democratic National Committee Midwest Caucus on Saturday, a week after the former Indiana congressman formally entered the race.

Roemer aides said he was angry over an opposition research memo being circulated in Washington and Democratic circles that outlined his voting record, which sometimes did not follow party lines. Aides said they did not know who wrote the memo and whether it came from a rival for the party's chairmanship.

Representatives of the other six candidates denied their campaigns distributed the memo.

Roemer's position against abortion rights was criticized last week by some party members.

Kate Michelman, former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, a group that advocates for abortion rights, said she considered running for the job after Roemer entered the race, but opted against it.

"I will spend the next month leading a vigorous effort to ensure that when the DNC elects its new leader, it selects someone who stands forthrightly for a woman's right to choose," Michelman said.

"I will also urge DNC members to make an unequivocal statement that choice is both a fundamental value of the Democratic Party and an essential component of our winning message."

THis man might be one of their best sources to bring the Democrat party into an actuall party. But will the left use him? Nope, and so they will continue to implode.

Hmmm.. Abortion could turn out to be as potentially troublesome to the Dems as Immigration has the potential to be to us.

It wins in California, New England, but that's about it.

But the Electoral College and Senate don't let them just roll up the score in their strongholds.

Hey, if you ain't a confirmed baby killer, Teddy, Nancy and the neocommunists don't want you! It just isn't enough to be against everything Bush and the Republicans are for, the DNC leader has to be vigorous in his support for killing babies (no blacks need apply, however!)!

The Rats weren't satisfied with killing their future generations.

Now the knives are out and they're eating their own.

Winners?! Ha!

Looks like Dean must be picking up momentum behind the scenes.

Good. If they want to start going with those kind of people, I will reserve my plant ticket to Mark Sanford/ Newt Gingrich/George Allen/Bill Owens/Rudy Guliani's (Pick a Republican) inauguration.

Well, let me throw in my vote for Teddy K. to head up the DNC. Only because it would hasten their demise and lock up 2008 for the Repubs, over three years out (chuckle)....I would think Dean will have a similar effect; his instability will be his downfall.

YEEEEEEHAAAAAA!!!!!

Did you see the headline on one of the threads last week that said that Harvard (I think) students did some kind of study and came up with the result for 2008---Chuck (Rino) Hagel!!! Now, you don't have to worry about it---it has been decided that since the Dems are too far left---we have to elect a RINO Republican next time!!!!

Yes, I saw that. Hagel will not get my vote based on some comments he made favoring the re-instatement of the draft. He is dead.

Will the Democrats listen to Roemer? Of course not! Zell Miller said the same thing five years ago, and Scoop Jackson said it some thirty years before Zell did. Both were told flatly that they had lost their minds.

I am always amused by abortionists using the term "choice". Technically, everything involves a choice. I guess I support the ability to make the "choice" to defend yourself with a gun should the need arise, but you don't see me calling myself pro-choice for that, do you?

I said this about two weeks ago on here when this NewDem stuff first started. The Dems simply can't move that much to the right because thir party is essentially funded in its entirety by an elite group of no more than 200 people. Most of these people are extremely liberal. The GOP, on the other hand, gets most of its funding from small donations, which gives it greater leeway. The GOP also used to use less soft money than the dems did. TO sum up, the dems cannot hack off their moneymen too much, because the fundraisers will just punt the leadership and put their men back in.

One hint at how bad he would be: One night last week Chris Mathews had him on his show and asked him if he is going to run in 2008. Of course, Hagel deflected the question, but Chris said something to the effect that "If you do, you will have a LOT of visits to my show, and I will look forward to it".

I don't think he would act that way to say, George Allen, or Rick Santorum or Bill Owens---he knows that Hagel is a rino and loves him for it!!
